Job Introduction
BBC Sport are looking for creative and dynamic Assistant Producers to work across our output in BBC Sport Productions.
BBC Sport is responsible for the coverage of many of the nation’s major sporting events including 6Nations and Wimbledon, as well as legendary football strands and high profile documentaries; from ‘How to Win the Champions League’ to Match of the Day. Our digital team provide content for the largest online sports site/app in the UK, attracting around 27m global browsers a week. And our digital live team provide content for iplayer and the red button to give audiences a wide range of Sports coverage all year round.
We want BBC Sport’s output to reflect and understand the audiences we serve - for example, the different geographical regions of the UK and the experience of people from underrepresented groups. Main Responsibilities
Assistant Producers contribute to the output by working as part of production teams across BBC Sport. You will be required to work across various platforms and support our content teams. Tasks will include working on live action and highlights programmes, playing a full part in all aspects of the VT operation. Outputting content with our digital live team, and supporting our digital teams with content for our social platforms.
You will be passionate about a range of sports, know what makes a good story and relish the challenge of producing creative and ambitious content within budget.
You will be confident producing shoots, directing cameras, talent and contributors, as well as taking responsibility for planning shoots and edits for a wide range of output. A good understanding of the editorial and production requirements of a live OB is also essential.
You will be able to identify and create exciting digital video content and you will pitch content ideas and develop formats that can be used across teams and platforms – from live streams, linear TV, social platforms and digital shortform content to longer form features.
You’ll be flexible, positive, collaborative, and a confident communicator. You will use data insights to shape your ideas, and share your skills, knowledge and understanding with other teams in BBC Sport. The ideal candidate will be keen to learn and develop new skills with a keen interest to work collaboratively and share ideas.
Our extensive rights portfolio means that we cover some of the biggest events in sport. In this job, you‘ll need to know your sport, and have sound editorial judgement to spot the stories and lines that matter and will engage audiences.
Are you the right candidate?
This role requires significant experience in TV Sport Production. We are looking for individuals with a flair for film making and experience of sport outside broadcasts, fast turn-around programmes, live gallery skills and post production knowledge are essential. You’ll need to be bursting with creative ideas and treatments that reflect the wide audience the BBC needs to reach.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to conduct in-depth research, build relationships externally and internally as well as contributing creatively to the post-production process. A keen interest in developing skills such as self-shooting and video editing and strong understanding of what content works well on digital platforms is crucial.
They will have a genuine enthusiasm and interest in sport, the stories and personalities within it, and a good understanding what stories and moments captivate audiences. You will be an excellent communicator, able to collaborate with other teams within BBC Sport and beyond in order to deliver the best outcomes, and be comfortable working alongside high-profile talent.
You'll be an excellent problem-solver, able to work around challenges and obstacles. You will also on occasion need to be available to work at weekends to support our events, programming and output.
