The Musicians’ Union (MU) is the UK trade union for musicians and represents over 35,000 musicians across the UK working in all sectors of the music business.
As well as negotiating on behalf of our members with all the major employers in the industry, we offer a range of support services for professional and student musicians of all ages and backgrounds.
The Music Writers Officer (part time) will work within the Live, Theatre & Music Writers Department, which is made up of the Live, Theatre and Music Writers Official, Officer, and line managed by the National Organiser Live, Theatre & Music Writers.
This role is offered on a part time, 0.6 FTE, permanent basis such that it might fit alongside other responsibilities or commitments. The choice of days / hours worked will be agreed in advance between the successful candidate and the line manager. It can be carried out anywhere in the UK with hybrid working from home and one of our MU Offices (Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, London). Travel around the UK for meetings, with overnight stays, will occasionally be required.
The successful candidate will provide dedicated, focused support for Music Writers enquiries, campaigns, and section activity within the Department. They will have a good understanding of the role of Performance Rights Organisations (PROs), the different revenue streams for composers and songwriters, and of commissioning and licensing processes.
The ability to work well within the team as well as individually and a commitment to the overall aims and objectives of the trade union movement are also required.
