To ensure the effective management of Radiation and Health and safety legislation. To work effectively and present the requirements for the service to senior management considering targets and scanning availability soallowing the management team to shape and inform the strategic planning for CT service, including, workforce, training and capital. To manage change with the CT staff as required by service development, enabling good operational management and ensuring targets aremet. To take responsibility for resolving areas of conflict which may arise as a result. To be responsible for the development and practice of departmental QA programmes and ensure the maintenance of QA records. To comply with performance related monitoring and participate in regular audits and review done within CT. Have the ability to assess the whole range of demands on the CT services and make judgements and decisions in relation to complex staffingand operational issues to ensure delivery to meet service demand To manage the provision of the scanners to ensure excellent patient care To ensure that incidents and errors are reported, to investigate and ensure all staff learn from such events. To ensure the equipment is well cared for and report any breakdowns, faults or problems to the appropriate agency for rectification. To provide performance data as required and ensure an effective working level. To monitor the safe and effective use of all resources. To ensure that all incidents, near incidents, accidents and other undue occurrences are dealt with in accordance with current policy. To resolve any complaints from patients and staff and report any incidents to as per ABUHB policy. To manage, prioritise and delegate effectively. To work clinically within Codes of Practice, occupational standards, policies & procedures. To ensure that departmental rotas are formulated as required. To take the prime role in the formulation and adjustment of and adherence to departmental protocols and policies for CT to ensure efficientwork practices. To take part as a member of a job interview panel and act as appointing officer as the department requires. To conduct Personal Appraisal Development Reviews with members of staff as required by the department. To assess and scan patients to ensure the provision of high-quality diagnostic images. To ensure high standards of patient care during theirexamination. To record all the appropriate information for the examinations in line with current legislation. To ensure effective risk management strategies are employed and risk assessments are performed. To keep abreast of current CT practices and techniques. To attend relevant courses as approved by the Radiology Manager and / or Study Leave Committee. To maintain a CPD file and support the development of CT staff within the directorate. To initiate and manage audit projects. To maintain and improve knowledge and expertise in current developments and future trends in relation to CT management and practice,especially as these affect the Health Board. To maintain current registration with the HCPC and to comply with its standards Professional To provide professional leadership, advice and support to CT staff on Radiography issues for effective development and managerial decisionwithin the Health Board. To possess expert knowledge, skills and experience in relation to CT. To communicate with and reassure patients including those who may be distressed, uncooperative or have learning difficulties, in order togain their co-operation. To communicate directly to all grades of medical, nursing and managerial staff as appropriate. To vet CT requests and to ensure a consistent approach to vetting within the service. To ensure the provision of a high quality and efficient CT service to all patients. To possess and maintain an expert knowledge of the current CT examinations being carried out and being responsible for all equipment usedin these areas. To develop and evaluate new techniques in CT in consultation with other professional staff and to co-operate with staff participating in ethicalresearch processes. To make an ongoing contribution to the education of others and act in a teaching and advisory role to qualified colleagues To ensure a high level of patient care and maintenance of professional standards. To reassure patients. To carry out all duties in a professional manner. To be actively involved in the proposal and implementation of new service developments. To undertake research and audit projects. To liaise with the radiation protection supervisors and the Radiation protection service to ensure compliance with radiation legislation. To liaise with PACS staff and to be familiar with the RADIS system of software and clinical workstation as required. Manual handling of patients and equipment may be necessary. To know the work policies, procedures and practices of the radiology directorate. To undertake audits within ABUHB and to participate in all Wales audits pertaining to the role and also any surveys or audits that pertain tothe job. To liaise with other members of the radiology directorate and directorates as required. To assist in maintaining an effective working level and monitor the safe and economic use of all resources. To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of the post in order to provide a quality service. To communicate effectively with patients and all grades of staff. To undertake mandatory in-house training. Educational To help to create and maintain a proactive learning environment for all staff. To continue professional development in line with the service strategy and to be proactive in own personal development and maintain an upto-date CPD log. To supervise and instruct Radiographers, radiography students, Health care support workers and any other members of staff as appropriate. To act as clinical supervisor to student Radiographers. To undertake research and development projects and lead on clinical audit, encouraging the staff in CT to participate. To develop an error reporting system that then allows all staff to learn from incidents and errors. Personal To assist in the creation and maintenance of a good working atmosphere.
