Job overview
The Cardiology Specialty at North Bristol NHS Trust is looking to appoint one or two full-time Clinical Fellows for a period of 12 months with potential extension until the candidate is successfully appointed to a Cardiology training rotation. This is a post that will provide excellent opportunities for gaining experience in Cardiology and we are seeking someone with enthusiasm for a career in Cardiology.
The post is neither Royal College nor Postgraduate approved for training, but is educationally sound and well supported. In particular, there will be training in transthoracic echocardiography which will put the successful candidate in an excellent position to sit their BSE written examination. The successful candidate will also gain experience in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.
It is expected that at the end of the post the successful candidate will be in a good position to apply in the ST3 recruitment round.
Full Registration with the GMC is essential.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Fellow will work closely with the Consultants, Associate Specialist, Cardiology middle and junior grade medical staff and Cardiology Nurse and Heart Failure Specialists, and will support the cardiology team in delivering both inpatient and outpatient care. The post holder will gain experience in the assessment of inpatients with a broad variety of acute and chronic cardiac conditions, as well as experience in outpatient work.
There are no out of hours on call commitments but the candidate may be able to support the on call medical team at the weekend if wanted via NBT Bank.
Working for our organisation
The successful candidate will be based in the state of the art Brunel Building in Southmead Hospital which was opened in May 2014. Located in North Bristol, there is easy access to/from the M4/M5/M32 motorways and public transport. For those who cycle, Bristol boasts excellent cycling facilities and was chosen as England’s first cycling city in 2008, and was the European green capital in 2015.
In 2014 Bristol was nominated by the Times as the best city to live in the UK, citing: “one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, varied and beautiful housing stock, decent schools, buzzy culture and night life and access to some fantastic countryside”.
