As Senior Ophthalmic Vision Science Practitioner (OVS), you will be a self-motivated, proactive individual with excellent time management and organisational skills. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to provide expert, safe, effective, and high-quality Diagnostic Imaging Services at Moorfields, including the Trust's satellite and Virtual Clinics, Private Patients, and Richard Desmond Children's Eye Centre (RDCEC). The role encompasses supporting junior staff to develop skills and helping to embed a continuous quality improvement culture across the service. The postholder will act as an exemplar and professional role model in embracing core values of caring, organised, excellent, and inclusive. As a senior OVS, you will work both clinically and managerially to undertake day-to-day supervision of the team, working with the Head of Department to ensure safe staffing across all sites.
Main Duties of the Job
Provide Diagnostic Imaging and Ultrasound Services at the main Moorfields site, including the Trust's satellite Clinics, Private Patients, and Richard Desmond Children's Eye Centre. Support junior staff to develop skills and embed a continuous quality improvement culture across the service. There is also an occasional requirement to provide imaging services out of normal working hours, including some Saturday work.
Job Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
1. Provide the full range of routine and specialised imaging techniques requiring expert knowledge of Ophthalmology anatomy and disorders.
2. Be an expert in performing and analysing ophthalmic images using standard techniques and any new techniques or devices deemed appropriate by the Head of Department.
3. Perform Slit-Lamp imaging of the anterior segment of the eye and possess knowledge of the use of Topical Stains when appropriate.
4. Record angiography of the anterior segment using retinal imaging devices.
5. Provide clinical imaging of the external eye and ocular adnexa.
6. Undertake Optical Coherence Tomography of the retina and disc using different imaging modalities.
7. Identify types of drop instillation of various drugs required for good quality imaging of the eye.
8. Advise and provide advanced/novel imaging techniques as required.
9. Assist and provide advice to medical staff in diagnosing patient conditions.
10. Provide a high-quality service for research projects and clinical trials.
11. Appraise new devices and techniques for clinical implementation.
12. Work under clearly defined policies and work practices.
13. Deal with adverse reactions to fluorescein or other imaging agents.

Other Responsibilities
1. Work as a point of contact for the department for education and training.

4. Support the development and maintenance of policies, guidance, protocols, and procedures.

Person Specification
Education Qualifications
* Post Graduate qualification relevant to Medical Imaging
Knowledge/Experience
* A minimum of 3 years experience performing diagnostics in medical imaging.
* A minimum of 2 years experience supervising staff.
Skills
* Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills.
* A minimum of 2 years experience teaching/training junior staff.
