The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing managerial & clinical advice on all wards areas at the Royal Sussex County Hospital rotating and covering either medical and surgical wards. Optimal patient safety and staff welfare must be ensured through a visible nursing presence on each ward throughout the night supporting both nursing and medical staff. To ensure that any staffing risk is spread evenly across all ward areas relocation of staff and deployment of pool HCAs will be required. You will also be expected to attend all medical emergencies, cardiac arrests, fire alarms & security incidents throughout the Trust overnight providing senior nursing input and ensuring, alongside the CSM, that correct procedures and policies are followed to maximize safety. The post holder will also need to collect and verify discharge data and where possible prepare patients for early discharge to improve operational performance the following day. Although your job will primarily be on night duty, there will be some day cover managing capacity at RSCH.
Reporting to the Clinical Site Manager, the post holder will ensure that high standards of care are maintained and Trust policies are adhered to whilst providing support to the CSM overnight as required.
Main duties of the job
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join the Clinical Site Management team. You will join our team of experienced senior nurses at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a forward-thinking, dynamic individual who works well under pressure and enjoys a challenge. You may cover either site alongside a band 7 /8A CSM and be expected to work both night and day shifts; however, over a 4-week period, you will be predominantly working a night rota.
The operational team is responsible for providing safe and effective patient flow throughout the hospital. The Nurse Practitioner is expected to offer leadership within the hospital and first-line response to all onsite clinical emergencies. Job responsibilities
Implement and monitor standards of clinical practice, supervise practice and take remedial action, to ensure and promote safe and competent practice. First contact for all concerns about clinical issues contacting the Clinical Site Manager and Critical Care Outreach team as required.
Undertake the following practice when necessary in order that patients receive timely intervention:
* Insert & re-site cannulae
* Venepuncture
* Laryngeal mask insertion
* Perform and interpret ECGs
* IV drug therapy
* CVP / PICT line management
* Respond to cardiac arrests and medical emergencies
* Group directives (Drug led administration)
* Patient assessment via ALERT course
* Other procedures according to locally agreed practice
* Supervise and support nursing and medical staff as required
