Electrician.
AASC, Coventry
Full time, 37.5 hours per week. Vehicle provided and a full driving licence is required.
Salary: £38,813.00, plus Serco Benefits.
The primary function of this role is to attend to works which are related to the relevant role. The role also supports non-trade Maintenance Operatives (MOs) to fix faults. The role requires close working relationships with the housing teams to ensure outstanding service to the users. To complete all relevant electrical works and certification reporting to the Electrical Manager.
Carry out Electrical reactive repairs on Power, Lighting, Fire Alarm (BS5839 1-6), Emergency Lighting & Heating systems.
Carry out Electrical certification, Fire certification and Emergency light certification when required.
Main Accountabilities:
Maintenance of Property
- To report faults as necessary using our IT system to ensure all faults are reported and closed for their property portfolio.
- Liaison with Internal Staff to ensure access can be obtained, works are completed to the agreed standards.
- To undertake once a year a Portable Appliance Test (PAT) for any properties when / if requested.
- To provide the administration team the necessary feedback and costing information as required.
Trade Duties
- To carry out reactive and remedial electrical works in the domestic sector.
- You will be responsible for Service, Maintenance, Fault Finding, Repair and Fault Rectification on a range of electrical systems such as power, lighting, fire alarms/panels and emergency lighting.
- Inspecting and Testing – completing the appropriate NAPIT forms such as Minor Installation Certificate, Electrical Installation Certificate, Electrical Installation Condition reports, Fire Alarm & Emergency lighting Certification.
- To provide technical advice and support to the maintenance section.
- To carry out PAT on properties where required on request.
- To undertake the certification and installation / repairs to emergency lighting and fire alarm systems.

Health & Safety
- To ensure that the safety of all users of the property from a building standard is achieved.
- To check all relevant property reports before undertaking works in the properties (e.g., asbestos, dangerous persons) or request additional reports if deemed appropriate.
Materials Management
- To only purchase materials from approved Serco suppliers and keep receipts for all transactions to identify and record what materials are used for each job / property providing the electrical manager with all necessary paperwork.
- Where specified only purchase the agreed Serco standard materials unless alternative substitutions can be provided due to stock requirements.
Plant & Tool Hire / Purchase
- To obtain supervisor approval for the Hire or purchase of any plant or tools over £100 to undertake any maintenance repair.
- To ensure appropriate receipts are obtained and recoded for each property / job completed.
Company Tools and Equipment
- Ensure the security of all tools and equipment, including vehicles and specialist equipment, against improper use always.
Waste Disposal
- To remove all waste from properties when in attendance and ensure the waste is disposed of in approved license areas and re-cycled where possible.
Work Scheduling & Prioritisation
- To read and understand the SOR of the AASC contract.
- All allocated KPI work must be completed in advance of the scheduled completion date.
- To undertake quality control of electrical works.
Stakeholder Liaison
- Where requested, be the site liaison for all stakeholder parties with an interest in the property e.g. Landlords, Local Authorities, Home Office, to provide maintenance support.
Working Hours
- Various work patterns will be set for this role depending on operational delivery needs.
On –Call Requirements & Out of Hours Working
- They will be a requirement to be on call and undertake out of hours working to agreed rosters and in accordance with the out of hours local operating procedure to provide a 24 hour and 7 day a week maintenance service.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Full Driving Licence is required.
- Qualified to City & Guilds Electrical Installation Level 3 (2365), (2330) or equivalent is essential.
- City & Guilds (2382) 18th Edition is essential.
- City & Guilds Inspection & Testing (2391/52) is essential.
- City and Guilds (2377) PAT is desirable.
- Experience in Domestic Dwellings is essential.
- Prepared to undertake further trade related training as necessary to ensure qualifications stay approved.
- A willingness and ability to travel within the region and occasionally within the UK (a valid UK driver’s licence is essential)
- CRB Clearance and Security Clearance at CTC level (Counter Terrorism Check) required (Serco Civil Government is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office).
