Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, polite, confident, resilient and organised individual to join the ENT Outpatient Service as a Staff Nurse. You will be expected to have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the numerous patients that visit outpatients on a daily basis.
While putting the patient first, the successful candidate will undertake a range of clinical duties as delegated by the OPD Sister or Staff Nurse in Charge.
You will be expected to record any care or intervention you provide as delegated by the OPD Sister/ Nurse in Charge. The ability to work at pace, following advice and instruction outlined by medical and/or senior nursing staff is essential. You will be expected to be able to work alone or as part of a team within your NMC Code of Practice.
Previous experience in an acute hospital setting/outpatient is an advantage.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to support outpatients, with a focus on working in clinics to support patients during their outpatient journey. A range of duties from welcoming patients to clinic and explaining who they will see; performing any baseline observations requested by the clinician, being a chaperone and good listener while ensuring that the clinic starts and finishes on time. You will be expected to be competent with using information technology as you work with electronic patient records. Undertaking coordination of clinics, appropriate delegation and responsibilities for patient safety during a range of diagnostic procedures.
Previous experience of ENT would be advantageous.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To provide a high standard of individualised compassionate care to patients, whilst maintaining at all times, their privacy and dignity.
* To assist the OPD Manager in the efficient running of medical outpatient clinics.
* To coordinate the clinics to ensure that patients visiting the outpatient area receive a first-class service.
* To support patients visiting the outpatient setting; ensuring that they are kept updated & informed with their progress (in clinic) and explanations provided regarding any next steps (what happens next) through the service.
To provide care for patients who attend the outpatient department and for their carers; within the recognized framework in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Calderdale & Huddersfield Foundation Trust policies, and Health & Safety legislation.
