Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our amazing Paediatric Occupational Therapy service at Seaside View Child Development Centre, Brighton General Hospital. This is a community post, with a caseload of children and young people with neurological and developmental conditions.
The post holder will be responsible for applying their expertise in assessing and providing interventions or strategies that can be administered by parents, education staff and technical instructors as well as yourself. You will work closely with the child, family and other professionals involved in their care, across various settings, e.g. clinic, client's homes, schools and nurseries. We are committed to multi-disciplinary working and contribute to specialist clinics. Candidates must be able to demonstrate advanced clinical skills gained through previous OT experience.
The successful candidate will also have the ability to work independently in the community, have excellent organisation/time management skills and be committed to clinical governance. Candidates are required to have current HCPC-UK registration and be able to travel in the community.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To provide Clinical and Professional Leadership, ensuring effective governance for staff working in allocated area or service.
2. To work with the professional lead to ensure staff are clinically competent, services are clinically effective and safe, and an excellent patient experience is delivered.
3. To embed the principles of interdisciplinary working and cross-skilling for all staff, including implementing the competency frameworks.
4. To provide specialist clinical advice regarding complex patients.
5. To provide specialist clinical assessment and intervention for highly complex patients as required.
6. To work with the professional lead in supporting an audit plan in the appropriate clinical area and participate in research as appropriate, to inform future service development.
7. To ensure services continue to develop in line with Trust transformation programmes and the SCFT Clinical Strategy.
8. To develop key partnerships, working to ensure effective whole system working, through effective communication and networking with other disciplines and by working across professional boundaries.
9. To act as deputy to the line manager and professional lead.

Job Responsibilities
Hours/Working Patterns: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. The service operates a 5-day week (excluding bank holidays) and the working pattern for this role will need to be agreed.
Setting: Children's community setting based in Seaside View Child Development Centre (CDC), Brighton General Hospital. The post requires input into CDC, homes, and educational settings which includes special needs provision. Working with children and families, with neurological, developmental, and sensory difficulties. Multi-Disciplinary working alongside Paediatricians, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and the Specialist Nursing team. Liaison and close working relationship with Education Staff.
Specific Clinical Skills/Expertise:
1. Ability to work autonomously and independently.
2. Previous experience of working with children as a registered Occupational Therapist is essential.
3. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with children and their families.
4. Knowledge of equipment and resources which meet the needs of children with additional needs.
5. Knowledge and experience of using assessment tools and outcome measures to ensure effective clinical delivery for children and their families.
6. Knowledge of child development, neurological and developmental conditions which can inform therapy intervention.
7. Knowledge and experience of supporting needs of children with sensory processing difficulties.
8. Ability to compose clear and concise reports and use electronic patient record system.
9. Knowledge and skills in relation to provision of equipment to meet children's postural care needs.
10. Demonstrate confidence in delivering training to small and large audiences.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Take Clinical Leadership of at least one Specialist Interest area.
2. Writing reports to contribute to the EHCP process.
3. Attendance at appropriate meetings such as referrals meetings, Specialist Interest Groups (SIGs), Local team meetings, etc., to ensure Occupational Therapy Service is meeting the needs of service users.
4. Delivery of training packages to parents and staff where required.
5. The service uses SystmOne Patient record system; training will be provided by the Trust.
6. Involvement in service development and innovations.
7. Providing clinical expertise to junior members of staff or other professionals.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential:
* Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Registered with HCPC
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio appropriate to specialist field
* Evidence of leadership education/development or a willingness to undertake this
Desirable:
* Post Registration qualification or training to Masters level or equivalent in experience
Skills Essential:
* Demonstrable expertise within clinical area underpinned by theory and significant experience.
* Knowledge and experience shown in a wide range of approaches to treatments, management of conditions and situations.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Excellent knowledge of specialist equipment for use within paediatrics.
