Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, with services covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.
This is a post for a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive care created due to the expansion of services. This is a full-time post with a provisional and indicative job plan as outlined. The successful candidate will work with the current cohort of Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists to provide care for patients admitted to the Lancashire Cardiac Centre.
Main duties of the job
The successful appointee will be responsible for the provision of anaesthesia for cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery (including elective and emergency), and cardiology cases including EP procedures, TAVI, devices, and PPCI. There will be an expectation to cover the cardiothoracic intensive care unit as per indicative job plan and provide out-of-hours service to theatres, Catheter labs, and CITU.

* Full registration with the GMC
Qualifications and Training
* MB ChB or equivalent
* FRCA or equivalent
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
* Effective teaching skills - meets criteria to be a clinical supervisor.
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload and to delegate responsibility and supervise staff.
* Ability to motivate and inspire a multi-disciplinary team and work sensitively within teams and across organisations.
* Involvement in service development and managing change in a healthcare setting.
* Leadership skills - ability to take responsibility, show leadership and make decisions.
* Clinical experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia.
* Proficiency in transoesophageal echocardiography.
* Cardiothoracic Critical Care experience.
* Computer and IT skills.
* Educational qualification or working towards.
* Meets criteria to satisfy or have experience as educational supervisor.
* Awareness of NHS organisation and core values of NHS.
* Understanding of the management responsibilities of NHS consultants.
* Participation in a management training course.
