Senior Electrical Engineer\n\nLocation: Sunderland\n\nIndustries: Mining / Oil & Gas / Rail / Tunnelling / Cement / Heavy Engineering\n\nCompany Overview\n\nOur client is a major engineering company based in Sunderland, recently awarded a £200 million project, set to begin in June 2025. They are seeking two experienced Senior Electrical Engineers to play a key role in the successful execution of this high-value project.\n\nRole Overview\n\nThe Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the electrical engineering and technical aspects of the project. The role focuses on the execution of electrical design, specification, and procurement, ensuring that all project deliverables meet the required safety, quality, and technical standards.\n\nThis role requires close collaboration with technical, process, design, and project engineers, as well as subcontractors and client stakeholders, to manage project deliverables and mitigate risks.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProject Execution: Ensure electrical engineering tasks are well-defined, controlled, and aligned with safety and technical deliverables.\nTechnical Coordination: Act as the primary technical contact for clients, clarifying scope and responding to technical queries.\nCross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with designers, engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth execution.\nConcept Design & Estimation: Support bids and proposals with concept design, component requirements, load schedules, and engineering time estimations.\nElectrical Design & Procurement: Lead detailed design, specification, and procurement of electrical and control systems for material handling in challenging environments.\nRisk & Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with UK regulations, CE/UKCA marking, ATEX regulations, and IET Wiring Regulations (latest edition).\nClient Meetings & Support: Participate in client discussions, providing technical expertise and supporting value engineering processes.\nContinuous Improvement: Contribute to value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives within the electrical engineering domain.\n\nKey Requirements\n\nQualifications:\n\nHNC in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering (or equivalent).\nExperience:\n\nExperience leading a team of electrical engineers in a contract-based environment.\nBackground in detailed design, specification, and procurement of electrical/control systems for heavy engineering projects (Mining, Oil & Gas, Rail, Tunnelling, Cement, etc.).\nKnowledge of mechanical processes and how they integrate with electrical systems.\nExperience in the assessment, design, and selection of electrical distribution, control, and protection schemes.\nTechnical Knowledge:\n\nFamiliarity with IET Wiring Regulations (latest edition).\nUnderstanding of CE/UKCA regulatory compliance and design risk assessments.\nAppreciation of ATEX regulations and their impact on process design and equipment selection.\nSoft Skills:\n\nAbility to participate and contribute in client meetings.\nStrong understanding of value engineering and continuous improvement methodologies.\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills.\n\nWhat’s on Offer?\n\n✔ Competitive salary\n ✔ Annual bonus\n ✔ Pension scheme\n ✔ Generous holiday allowance\n ✔ Opportunity to work on a £200 million high-profile project\n ✔ Career progression within a leading engineering company
