Job Title - Cleaning & Environmental Manager
Reporting to - Soft Services Area Manager
Location - Gunwharf Quays Shopping Centre
Job Purpose:
To lead, develop and manage the cleaning and waste management team, ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of all designated areas, and to constantly look at ways of improving and maintaining the efficient and effective running of cleaning operations.
Take the lead in driving forward environmental and waste management best practice, including supporting Brand Partners, to minimise the environmental impact of the Gunwharf Quays operations.
Main Duties:
Team Management:
* Lead and manage a large team of cleaners and waste operatives across a number of different shift patterns, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
* Conduct regular team meetings, briefings and 1-1s to ensure staff are updated on tasks and standards, and are aware of their performance.
* Monitor and maintain staff motivation, providing support and development opportunities where necessary, and actively using the reward and recognition programme to drive positive engagement and loyalty.
* Through positive leadership behaviours and a change mindset, empower the team to constantly look at how they can improve the way they work to deliver improved outcomes.
* Lead from the front, ensuring that the team recognise our 'guest first' approach, and that guest service expectations are met by everyone in the team.
* Ensure staffing levels are in line with the needs of the business and the budget. (Budget covers the cleaning and waste staffing provision for the main centre, car parks, and a marina).
Cleaning Operations:
* Ensure that all cleaning tasks are completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
* Develop, implement and constantly review cleaning schedules and plans to meet the needs of the facility, working with the team to deliver positive results.
* Inspect facilities regularly to ensure cleaning standards are maintained, and work with the wider Gunwharf Quays Management Team to deliver the best possible service to Brand Partners and guests.
* Manage deep cleaning projects across the centre, including the two car parks and the Marina, to deliver high standards and reduce potential maintenance costs.
Health and Safety Compliance:
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies regarding cleaning operations.
* Conduct risk assessments and ensure all staff follow proper procedures, using cleaning products safely.
* Provide staff with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure they are trained in its use.
Stock and Equipment Management:
* Oversee all cleaning supplies, machinery, PPE, uniform and equipment to effectively manage stock levels.
* Oversee the ordering of new supplies and equipment as needed, staying within budgetary limits, and stay ahead of new products or ways of working that could offer savings.
* Ensure that cleaning equipment is regularly serviced and maintained.
Stakeholder Communication:
* Work collaboratively with the Management Team at Gunwharf Quays and the wider Elevate team to build relationships, share responsibilities, and share best practice.
* Serve as the point of contact for all cleaning and waste management services at the centre.
* Listen to feedback, and address any challenges or ideas raised by other members of the Gunwharf Quays team promptly.
Quality Control:
* Provide reports on a monthly basis, showing performance against the agreed set of KPIs. Ensure the team are made aware of this KPI performance and ensure that the team understand how KPI performance is linked to bonus payments.
* Conduct quality control checks with the team, to ensure cleaning standards are being met, and to empower the team to manage their own areas to be best in class.
* Implement corrective measures when cleaning services do not meet standards through performance management or new ways of working.
Budget Management:
* Manage the cleaning department's budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
* Track expenditures on cleaning products, equipment, and labour.
Training and Development:
* Ensure ongoing training programmes are delivered to the cleaning team on cleaning methods, product usage, safety practices, and guest service.
* Identify areas where additional training may be needed and implement improvement programs.
* Consider succession planning, and work with willing team members on a 1-1 basis to develop their skillsets to set them up for career progression.
* Take responsibility for your own personal development, and work with the Management Team at Gunwharf Quays and the wider Elevate team to grow your skill set.
Skills & Requirements:
* Experience: Proven experience in cleaning management or facilities management.
* Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams effectively.
* Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to liaise with clients and staff, and work as part of a management team to deliver results.
* Organisational Skills: Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the agility to change priorities in line with business needs.
* Attention to Detail: High attention to detail, ensuring that all cleaning tasks are carried out to the highest standards.
* Health and Safety Knowledge: Understanding of health and safety regulations related to cleaning operations.
* IT Skills: Proficiency in using scheduling and reporting software. Ability to competently use Microsoft Office products.
