Job summary To be an efficient, flexible member of the laboratory and wider Pathology service providing a consistently high quality and professional service. The specific aim of this role is to support the Service Lead in managing and developing the growing molecular pathology services at BCPS and to assist the consultant pathologists in reporting results and providing advice to clinical users. Work with consultant pathologists to introduce new tests and to manage the relationship with the local Genomic Laboratory Hub. Provide support to consultant pathologists and clinical service users. Provide specialist scientific knowledge and work as a member of the team to assess, plan and contribute to the provision of a specialised service. Assist the Service Manager, Technical Lead and Senior BMS in the management of the molecular pathology service. Undertake routine and complex laboratory work within the section ensuring the work is performed in an efficient, organised and professional manner to provide a high quality, timely service. Train and mentor more junior members of BMS staff and doctors in training as required in molecular pathology. Assist in preparation and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other quality documentation relating to molecular pathology, helping to ensure adherence to internal quality key performance indicators for document control. Provide advice to both internal and external colleagues on the suitability of specimens for analysis and the correct specimen pathway required. Be expected to represent the department as a BMS representative at local or national meetings.
