This is an exciting opportunity to join Scottish Power as a Transmission Technician, where you will support the continued safe and reliable operation of the Transmission Network.
What you’ll be doing:
* Assist Plant Protection Engineer with running of Plant Protection department.
* Assist the Plant Protection Engineer in resolving customer enquiries for works near to the transmission assets which includes cables and overhead lines.
* Meet and liaise with customers and 3rd parties to review and discuss planned works near the transmission network and provide clear and concise guidance.
* Request, obtain and review transmission drawings and technical information to quote and provide copies of with the requested guidance.
* Issuing guidance in accordance with relevant internal and external policies and procedures mainly HSG47 (Cable Avoidance) and GS6 (Avoiding danger from overhead power lines).
* Auditing, monitoring and reporting of work activities near the transmission network to ensure it is protected.
* Liaise with design team ensuring technical ratings of cables will not be affected.
* Consider innovations to traditional cable protection methods to help drive the Carbon Neutral policy forward.
* Capture feedback and issues from Operational Safety and Compliance Audits, Quality Audits etc and address any non-conformances.
* Deliver excellent customer service to all aspects of your operation. Actively promote and strive to deliver customer service standards within area of responsibility.
What you’ll bring:
* HNC in Electrical Engineering is highly desirable or relevant industry experience.
* Extensive knowledge of all types of Transmission assets, including cables and overhead lines, and the safe practices for working around them.
* Knowledge of external legislation, HSG47 and GS6 guidance.
* Knowledge of project management principles and CDM Requirements.
* Ability to manage work programmes.
* Enthusiastic and flexible approach.
* Ability to identify good practice, and implement change.
* Good motivational and communication skills.
* Committed to team working.
* High level of customer focus and understanding.
* Ability to form good working relationships with other departments/business units.
* Independent substation access.
To be successful, as a minimum you will have:
* Relevant experience on electrical networks.
* Able to demonstrate technical competence in relation to Transmission Cable Construction and Maintenance Activities.
* Site Management Safety Training / Safety Passport.
* Sound knowledge of CDM and HSAWA regulations.
* Full valid driving licence.
