Salary: £35,228.00 - £39,341.00 per annum
Temporary Full time 37 hours per week to 02/06/2025.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Educational Psychologist to join the EPS in Neath Port Talbot Council. In this role, you will play a crucial part in reinforcing a needs-led approach to supporting learners, working within the framework of the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018 (ALNET Act). You will contribute to the Directorate's mission to empower children, young people (CYP), parents, carers, and schools by helping them understand and build on individual learning profiles, celebrating strengths and differences within an inclusive, neurodiverse society.
As an Assistant Educational Psychologist, you will work alongside educational psychologists to develop and implement tailored intervention strategies. You will be involved in creating accessible resources for parents, carers, CYP, and schools, ensuring they have the tools to confidently support diverse needs. You will also take an active role in delivering training and workshops to build capacity in educators and families. In addition, you will organize and coordinate community events that promote neurodiversity and raise awareness of the needs-led approach.
A key aspect of the role involves collecting and analyzing data to assess the effectiveness of interventions, ensuring that the support provided has a measurable positive impact on the educational outcomes of CYP. You will also advocate for their needs. Working closely with other professionals, you will help schools implement person-centred approaches, ensuring that educational provision is driven by the needs of the individual.
To be successful in this role, you will need strong organizational and communication skills, as well as experience working with CYP in educational or clinical settings. Familiarity with neurodevelopmental disorders, inclusive education practices, and the ALNET Act will be essential. You will be expected to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity in your interactions with CYP and their families, while also working collaboratively with colleagues from across health and education sectors.
Applicants should hold a BPS-accredited degree in psychology (or equivalent) and have a strong commitment to pursuing a career as an educational psychologist, including plans to apply for the doctoral training programme. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an important mission and make a meaningful difference in the lives of CYP in Neath Port Talbot. If you are passionate about inclusive education and eager to advocate for those with additional learning needs, we encourage you to apply.
