Apex Resources are seeking a proactive Design Manager to join a growing design team who can help drive projects forward, and resolve challenges ensuring the timely delivery of design packages.
Reporting to the Head of Design, you will be responsible for the delivery of these design packages, ensuring they are approved on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Collaborating with both design and site teams, you will manage project schedules and ensure the design complies with building codes and regulations. This hands-on role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction processes, and experience coordinating mechanical and electrical elements. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines are essential. A collaborative mindset is necessary, as you will work alongside Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, and other consultants and designers.
Responsibilities
Design Management:
* Take charge of the Information Release Schedule and other project schedules.
* Run the submittals and RFI (Request for Information) process.
* Ensure design packages are approved on time to maintain the project program.
* Attend site and project meetings as required.
* Ensure high-quality design deliverables are produced.
* Identify and mitigate risks.
* Ensure employee requirements are being met.
* Quality control.
Design Coordination:
* Audit the design information when received, identifying inconsistencies, discrepancies, design changes and missing information.
* Coordinate mechanical and electrical (M&E) elements with architectural and interior design components.
* Check design compliance with building codes and regulations.
Team Collaboration:
* Run design team meetings and sub-contractor meetings.
* Work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers and Sub-contractors to ensure smooth project delivery.
* Reporting to Head of Design.
Qualifications
* Valid driver’s license.
* Previous experience managing multiple projects concurrently
* Previous design management experience or experience as a Part 3 Architect working on high-end residential projects (Part 2 Architects with sufficient experience will also be considered).
* Good understanding of UK building and fire regulations
* Experience and knowledge of M&E installation and coordination
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Microsoft Office essential
* Proficiency in Revit, Archicad or Vectorworks (preferred but not essential)
