Financial Institutions and Counterparty Credit ("FICC") within Wholesale Credit Risk is responsible for proactively managing Citis credit exposures in Europe, UK, and Middle East and Africa (MEA) clusters. The portfolio consists of banks, broker/dealers, insurance companies, funds, hedge funds, amongst other counterparty types. Credit-sensitive products and services include loans, derivatives and other capital markets products, trade finance, clearing and settlement, cash, and securities services.
Job Purpose
* Manage Citis exposure to Financial Institutions based and/or operating in the Europe, UK and MEA clusters
* Actively engage with business heads to formulate risk appetite, set portfolio guidelines, and execute the business strategy
* Ensure that risk/return of the portfolio is well-balanced
* Deliver the global Counterparty Credit Risk strategy in the Europe, UK and MEA clusters
Key Responsibilities:
* Represent Europe, UK and MEA clusters on Financial Institutions and Counterparty Credit Risk (FICC) applicable governance committees and forums such as the UK Cluster RMC, MEA and Europe Cluster Governance Committees, and the New Product Approval Committee
* Provide Senior Risk Approvals at Risk SCO 1 level
* Manage a team and matrix reports, with responsibility for ensuring adequacy of staffing, risk training, and talent mentoring and development
* Work closely with FICC SCOs to understand the risks in proposed transactions, help to structure them to mitigate risks and approve within the delegated authority
* Provide guidance as needed to SCOs to negotiate documentation such as ISDAs, loan agreements, etc.
* Review and provide input in developing acceptable standard terms for relevant agreements
* Communicate and socialize within the franchise and within Risk globally the risk strategy by cluster, product and industry type
* Actively manage and enhance the risk/return of specific transactions and the risk profile of the portfolio as a whole
* Determine and implement hedging or sell-down strategies as it relates to specific clients or sections of the portfolio
* Identify economic, social, and political trends within the clusters and their potential impact on risk-taking and risk management
* Stay well-informed of industry, product, macro-economic, and regulatory developments in order to properly position the portfolio
* Manage the portfolio in the context of cluster risk trends and business opportunities, utilizing and implementing relevant tools including product stress testing
* Meet with the clients senior management and local regulators to deepen understanding of the companies, industries and regulatory developments
* Actively monitor the CCR across business, risk stripes and legal vehicles with a focus on proactive problem recognition, stress testing and overall portfolio management.
Qualifications:
* Candidate should have demonstrable financial institutions credit or related experience
* A deep knowledge of derivatives, capital market and transaction banking products, ISDA/other trading agreements and loan agreements is required
* University Degree - Graduate Degree in Business, Finance, or Economics or equivalent is a plus
* Business convention, culture, language familiarity with one or more of the coverage countries/markets is a plus
Skills:
* People management, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills are needed in order to effectively lead our staff and engage with seniors in business initiatives
* Solid risk and business judgment on the full spectrum of risk issues including Market, Operational and Franchise Risks
* Considerable capital markets experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to decompose complex transactions into the core risks
Competencies:
* Demonstrated integrity and sound/independent credit judgment
* Ability to work comfortably in a matrix environment
* Self-starter
