Are you someone who would enjoy working as part of a team to support the development of new policies and strategies?
Would you be excited to be at the heart of the Department for Transport’s national security agenda, developing policy responses to a range of complex threats that undermine the UK’s safety and prosperity?
If so, we would love to hear from you!
The National Security Division (NSD) exists to mitigate current and emerging national security threats to the transport sector. We are looking for an HEO to join the National Security Strategy and Projects team to support the department’s approach to countering state threats. You will work closely with partners across government, including the UK Intelligence Community, to protect the UK’s transport sector from a range of threats – such as espionage and sabotage – orchestrated by foreign governments to harm the UK.
NSD sits within the department’s Transport Security Directorate (TSD). TSD leads on national security matters, ranging from counter terrorism and cyber security to compliance inspections and overseas capacity building.
As you will be part of a team that works on a rapidly evolving policy area, you will be expected to work flexibly and adapt to changing requirements and priorities across the team, wider Division and Directorate.
TSD invests significantly in training and developing staff to prepare them not just for an interesting and challenging job, but also for a rewarding career in the world of national security.
Responsibilities
Key accountabilities of the role include:
* Working on the department’s approach to a range of state threats and geographical issues, including security policy development.
* Developing and maintaining effective relationships with partners across government to shape wider national security strategies and articulate DfT equities in a range of areas, including the emerging priorities of the new government.
* Working on briefing for various senior meetings, including relevant national security councils and ministerial meetings.
* Building DfT’s own understanding and awareness of state threats at all levels throughout the organisation and with industry partners. Build effective relationships across DfT teams to ensure security work is aligned and supports the department’s priorities.
* Building and maintaining a strong cross-government network to understand and inform your work and influence others as appropriate.
* Being flexible in providing support as needed to deliver other priorities in the wider team, including potentially supporting responses to live incidents.
* Playing an active role in the team and wider division, contributing to a diverse and inclusive culture which values professionalism.
