As the new Technical Services Manager (reporting to the Head of Technical Services), your role sits in the Technical Services team providing support to a wide variety of projects with a particular focus on management of complex member casework, complaints handling, scheme events, and supporting the core member Services teams, as well as supporting on technical pensions issues within the wider team for one of the largest in-house pensions schemes in the UK.
This is a wide-reaching role in all things Technical, the perfect career move for a technical specialist wanting to expand their role and technical reach. You will support the Trustee discretionary committees such as the Compensation and Delegated Authority Panel, be the principal point of contact with the Legal team and external parties in relation to Scheme, legal, and regulatory issues arising from member services casework. You will support the core member Services Team with high value, sensitive, or technically complex cases (incl. reviewing calculations), answer ad hoc technical queries, lead the complaints handling process where necessary, review technical support notices, and deliver training where needed.
You will keep up to date with relevant legislation and regulations and assist in disseminating this information to relevant teams, and reviewing member communications, including the member portal. You will work closely with the Legal and Risk and Compliance teams, and the Operations Change team. From monitoring the strength of a process and systems to reduce risk to the scheme, to helping with the continuous improvement programme and quality reviews, all helping to improve the member experience.
To confidently and successfully undertake this exciting role, you will need strong pensions technical and operational experience from within Defined Benefit Scheme administration. Given the technical nature of the information you will need to convey to various parties in all formats, you will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to interact at all levels within the organisation. You also have strong numeric, analytical, and problem-solving skills. You are someone who enjoys the technical aspects of pension scheme administration and has a strong knowledge of HMRC rules and regulations and pensions/employer legislation. In your career so far, you are now used to managing the delivery of scheme events and working on other projects at the same time. You are a confident user of all Microsoft Office software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, linked to pensions software. Our client uses Intellipen.
