A bit about the job:
The core of your role as a Marine Trading Manager will be market facing, including interaction with brokers, current and prospective customers, and industry peers. You will have a role in driving a disciplined growth strategy, including portfolio steering and development of business acquisition channels. You will also exercise key responsibilities for the training and development of junior underwriting staff, and to deliver thought leadership.
Being part of an extensive team, you will have significant opportunities to develop your technical knowledge and capability beyond what you know today. Success is measured by delivery of pipeline to achieve plan, growth in GWP and profit, positive intermediary and client sentiment and trust and – importantly – never forgetting the ability to help foster a brilliant team ethos which brings out the best in everybody.
You will have accountability for:
1. Ensuring the allocated business is in line with plan requirements for all Marine business written & renewed.
2. Delivering the volume, quality, and profitability of growth opportunities to the Line of Business which enables them to hit their plan targets.
3. Building relationships with brokers and customers, internally and externally with travel, as necessary.
4. The performance and development of the risks assigned to you and as per plan. Plans include metrics for new and renewal targets for GWP, NWP, Loss Ratio, Expense Ratio, and Combined Ratio, and rate achievement.
5. Case by case judgement required to ensure overall strategy and governance targets are complied with
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
6. Strong technical experience in underwriting and handling cargo and freight liability risks
7. Proven record of underwriting a portfolio, including understanding the metrics required to monitor such a portfolio
8. Well, regarded by brokers with the ability to build and maintain relationships along with strong pipelining & opportunity development skills
9. Confident and articulate, comfortable engaging with brokers and undertaking negotiations.
10. Results oriented with the ability to plan and prioritise effectively
