The Role
As a Communications Maintenance Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of critical communication systems, making a significant impact on the success of Harbour Acceptance Trials and contributing to the advancement of maritime technology.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance of all designated GFX Equipment to Harbour Acceptance Trial (HAT) standard including, IAW Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS) and Non-UMMS maintenance.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Configuring all GFX equipment and infrastructure in accordance with RFMS specifications to meet the Trials Programme's requirements. This includes reviewing RFMS for specific requirements, collaborating with relevant teams to ensure alignment, and verifying that equipment is safe and available for trials
* Maintaining all assigned GFX equipment in accordance with UMMS, BRs, JSPs, and OEM guidelines. Conduct regular checks to ensure safety and functionality, and perform maintenance tasks as scheduled
* Ensuring that GFX equipment is safe, well-maintained, and available for daily trials booked on RFMS. Conduct daily checks to verify readiness and address any issues promptly to prevent downtime
* Collaborating with Combat Systems Engineers, teams, and customers to provide support, SME advice, and maintainer presence during trials. Offer in situ support as needed to ensure successful trial execution
* Conducting thorough fault-finding procedures to identify and rectify defects. Reconfigure equipment as necessary and support monthly System Operator Checks as designated by the Operations Team
* Managing and investigating GFX defects by registering them on RFMS, updating their status regularly, and keeping the Operations Team informed of progress. Ensure timely resolution to minimize impact on trials
Essential experience of the Communications Maintenance Engineer:
* You must have experience working in a maintenance role, specifically on Communication Systems
Essential qualifications for the Communications Maintenance Engineer:
* NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent

This role is 37 per week based at Portsmouth.
Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP) is one of QinetiQ’s key facilities focusing on advanced technology development and engineering services. Dedicated to research and development ensuring that complex systems are designed, integrated and tested effectively to meet operational requirements.
