What is Internal and Assurance Audit?
Internal Audit and Assurance (IAA) branch is part of the Corporate Services Directorate within the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). IAA is responsible for ensuring that the Agency strives for continuous improvement, maintains its ISO9001 certification, and operates to good standards of corporate governance, meeting all its legal obligations particularly with respect to the International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) Instruments Implementation Code (III Code) and Health & Safety requirements.
Who is the Head of Internal Audit and Assurance?
Head of the Internal Audit and Assurance team, and Head of discipline for the ISO9001 quality management standard and a competent Senior Lead Auditor within the MCA. Able to provide expert advice on the maintenance of the ISO9001 standard to ensure that the MCA meets its obligations for ongoing certification. Providing leadership, strategy, advice, guidance and oversight on all aspects of the Agency's Quality Management System (QMS) including representation to MCA’s Management Boards as required. Ensuring that the QMS is maintained, continually improved and satisfies the requirements of the III Code.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the management of the QMS, ensuring that it continues to meet the required standards.Ensure that the Agency is compliant with the III Code requirements for coastal, flag and port State.Oversee the development, management and delivery of an audit program, ensuring all Directorates are fully engaged with the process and in consultation with other internal and external audit teams, e.g. GIAA (Government Internal Audit Agency) and HMCG Standards Branch.Ensure the delivery of high-quality ISO 9001 audits in all areas of the business, identifying noncompliance and opportunities for improvement, with evidence based timely reports and proactive monitoring of any corrective actions to ensure resolution within agreed timescales.
