St Edmunds College is a leading co:educational independent school located in a magnificent country setting in rural Hertfordshire. We are Englands oldest Catholic school and offer an all:round co:education for students from 3 to 18 and for families from all faiths. Academic achievement is balanced by an emphasis on the spiritual, pastoral and co:curricular aspects of education. Together, these four key elements offer an experience that we believe is second to none.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced School Staff Instructor (SSI) to join our Combined Cadet Force (CCF). Founded in 1916, the College CCF continues to be a core activity at the centre of a full co:curricular programme. The CCF is made up of an Army and RAF section and is a popular activity amongst students. There is a busy training calendar of events and activities, and the Contingent has had considerable success in both regional and national competitions in recent years.
Reporting to the Contingent Commander, the SSI provides administrative, logistic and training support to the contingent and plays a key role working with the OCs to ensure we provide an enjoyable and challenging Cadet experience. It is expected that the candidates will have a Regular, Reserve or Cadet service background. Strong administrative and IT skills are essential together with a willingness to undertake all necessary MOD training for the role.
The SSI role is part time (3 days a week) and term time only. There is a requirement to attend training weekends and camps and support College events. The pro:rata salary is GBP21,000 per annum.
There is the possibility for additional responsibilities which could be combined with the SSI role to create a full:time role, and this is something that can be discussed prior to or at interview, depending on qualifications. Accommodation may be available for a candidate who is relocating and this can be discussed at interview.
* Whilst not in a teaching role, as School Staff Instructor (SSI) you will be working on a regular basis in a school in a role which gives opportunity for contact with children. As such, you will be in regulated activity and an enhanced DBS check (which includes childrens barred list information) will be required in advance of appointment.
* Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyones responsibility. As with all College staff members, you will therefore be responsible for providing a safe environment in which children can learn.
