Operations Risk Consultant
Role Description
The role of Operations Risk Consultant is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, wellbeing, and operational excellence while supporting our clients’ organization’s journey toward greater business maturity and resilience.
The Operations Risk Consultant (ORC) plays a key role in supporting our client’s business units by identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks. This individual ensures alignment with the organization’s risk management framework, promotes a strong safety culture, enhances operational maturity, and fosters employee wellbeing. By driving operational resilience and continuous improvement, the consultant will help safeguard the client organization’s integrity while advancing its strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Risk Identification and Assessment:
o The ORC will partner with business units to identify operational risks in processes, systems, and workforce behaviors.
o Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, including root cause analyses and risk prioritization based on impact and likelihood.
o Identify emerging risks and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) to proactively address vulnerabilities.
o Utilise and adapt well to partnered platforms to support the above function.
o Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, ensuring alignment with the organization’s safety, wellbeing, and maturity goals.
o Recommend controls and action plans to minimize risk exposures and foster a culture of accountability.
o Facilitate stress testing and scenario analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of risk controls.
2. Promoting Business Maturity:
o Support the development of mature business practices by aligning risk management with organizational objectives.
o Identify opportunities for process optimization, ensuring sustainable growth and operational excellence.
o Guide teams in embedding risk-conscious decision-making into daily operations to enhance resilience.
3. Safety Culture and Wellbeing:
o Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring policies and practices promote a safe and secure work environment.
o Collaborate with leadership to integrate wellbeing initiatives into operational risk frameworks.
o Support the monitoring of workplace conditions, identifying hazards, and addressing safety concerns proactively.
4. Advisory and Collaboration:
o Act as a trusted advisor, providing expert guidance to business leaders on operational risk, safety, and wellbeing issues.
o Facilitate training programs to improve risk awareness, safety practices, and employee engagement.
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive a unified approach to risk management and business continuity.
5. Compliance and Policy Management:
o Ensure alignment with the organization’s operational risk framework, regulatory requirements, and industry standards and benchmarks with best practice at the forefront.
o Develop, update, and enforce policies related to risk management, safety, and wellbeing.
o Maintain accurate and detailed documentation for audits and reporting purposes.
6. Monitoring and Reporting:
o Prepare and deliver risk reports, providing insights into trends, issues, and the effectiveness of mitigation efforts.
o Monitor progress toward business maturity, safety goals, and employee wellbeing targets.
o Escalate critical risks and gaps to senior management for timely resolution.
o Identify and lead initiatives to enhance operational risk management processes, tools, and strategies.
o Encourage innovation and adaptive thinking to strengthen the organization’s ability to respond to risks and disruptions.
o Promote a feedback loop to improve safety, operational practices, and employee wellbeing.
Skills and Competencies:
* Strong knowledge of operational risk frameworks (e.g., ISO 31000, 27001) and mitigation techniques.
* Ability to align risk management with organizational goals and foster business maturity.
* Deep understanding of workplace safety principles, wellbeing initiatives, and cultural transformation.
* Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities to engage stakeholders at all levels.
* Analytical mindset for identifying risks, addressing issues, and driving continuous improvement.
* Experience implementing change, cultural shifts, and driving behavioral change across organizations.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Occupational Health, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
* Professional certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Operational Risk Manager (ORM), or safety-focused credentials (e.g., NEBOSH, CISM) are highly desirable.
* 5+ years of experience in risk management, business consulting, safety leadership, or related fields.
