Salary: GRADE 8, £18,694 - £24,363 per annum (£46,735 to £60,907 FTE), plus Oxford university Weighting £600 per annum (£1,500 FTE)
Magdalen College is seeking an experienced and energetic College Librarian to work 2 days per week in a job share with the current Librarian.
Magdalen is one of the largest colleges in Oxford with a strong academic profile. The appointee will take shared responsibility for a library that is central to the College’s academic life. The College Librarian is responsible for the development, efficient organisation, smooth running, and security of the libraries and archives. The appointee will oversee the College’s modern lending library, its rare book and manuscript collections, and its rich archives, leading a committed team of staff. They will aim to run a responsive and friendly library that meets the needs of the College’s students, projects the College’s lively intellectual atmosphere, and engages with alumni and researchers at national and international levels.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Good undergraduate honours degree.
2. Professional library qualifications.
3. Extensive library experience, preferably in an academic library, with experience working with collections of manuscripts and early printed books.
4. Very good experience and knowledge of library systems, especially IT systems, cataloguing software, acquisitions, circulation, and serials.
5. Good understanding of electronic information resources and digital media.
6. Ability to lead and manage a small team and manage budgets.
7. Readiness to contribute to and enjoy the wider intellectual and social life of Magdalen.
8. Initiative, energy, and enthusiasm.
