The successful applicants will share the responsibility for our current Care of the Elderly ward (dedicated to elderly patients with complex medical and psycho-social problems). They will also support frail elderly patients on the Acute Medical Unit (EADU). We welcome subspecialty interests in Acute Frailty, Ortho-Geriatrics, Parkinson's Disease & movement disorders, dementia, or Community Care of the Elderly.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Contribute to the development of the Care of the Elderly service.
2. Provide, with the other Consultants, a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for General Internal Medicine and cover for annual, study, and professional leave.
3. Provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialties in the Trust.
4. Liaise with medical staff in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities of the hospital.
5. Take part in the continuing medical education programme. The Trust will provide study leave expenses in line with national terms and conditions of service.

About Us
The Trust provides comprehensive acute care for the population of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, and the South Waveney area and for many visitors to the area. This acute care is provided from the James Paget University Hospital site at Gorleston and is supported by other community services at the Newberry Centre, Kirkley Rise North Lowestoft, and outreach clinics.
Job Responsibilities
The post holder would work alongside 2 other geriatricians on ward 12 (care of the elderly) to improve the care of older people with complex needs as well as improving the care of frail patients on EADU. They would be part of a team of doctors looking after a Criteria Led Older Peoples ward dealing with complex acute care with the elderly, focusing on patients with long-term conditions, including dementia and movement disorders. There is a weekly MDT with the Older Peoples Mental Health team including a Liaison Psychiatry Consultant and a weekly meeting with the Palliative Care team.
Prospective candidates should be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT or be listed on or eligible for the UK Specialist Register at the date of interview.

Education and Qualifications
* MBBS or Basic Medical Degree
* MRCP or equivalent
* Hold a certificate or be within 6 months of completion of training or be on or eligible for the UK Specialist Register at the date of interview
* Full GMC registration
* MD/PhD
* Possession of ALS
Experience & Knowledge
* Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems with extensive experience in Acute and General Medicine
* A special interest to complement those within the department
Academic Achievements
* An understanding of the principles of research
* Knowledge of using evidence-based medicine to support decision-making
* Experience of conducting clinical audits
* Published research
Key Skills
* Ability and enthusiasm for teaching healthcare professionals and medical students in an Acute Medicine setting
* Capable of organizing and prioritizing work effectively
* Motivation and ability to plan and develop the service
* Energy and enthusiasm with the ability to work under pressure
* Experience in teaching junior medical staff
