Job Summary:
Rock Paper Shotgun (RPS) is looking to expand its reviews capability. As Reviews Editor, you will work closely with our staff writers and the Editorial Director to build the best original PC games reviews on the internet. You will manage our reviews scheduling and output, ensuring our reviews are informative, engaging, and entertaining.
Job Responsibilities:
* Work with the Editor to select target games and the best approaches for our reviews.
* Coordinate the production and publishing schedule to optimize the team's time.
* Manage the Guides Writer's time and oversee a freelance budget.
* Ensure our reviews are structured for SEO and monitor their performance.
* Develop standard processes for SEO with our international network.
* Play major video game releases and deliver comprehensive reviews under time pressure.
* Edit reviews for accuracy, clarity, and structure.
* Learn our content management system (CMS) for publication preparation.
Job Qualifications:
The Must-Haves:
* Superb writing style with emphasis on clarity and economy.
* Ability to edit other writers' copy under time pressure.
* Extensive knowledge of video games across various genres.
* Good practical understanding of video game design.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
* Positive attitude and team mentality.
* Passion for video games and gaming culture.
Not Required, but Nice to Have:
* Understanding of search engine optimisation.
* Degree in Journalism, English, or related media subject.
* Familiarity with the web publishing environment.
* Experience managing other staff.
* Knowledge of the games industry with relevant contacts.
* Interest in the technology and entertainment sectors.
Work Environment:
Work Schedule: Standard full-time working schedule, M-F. No expectation to work weekends or holidays.
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to conferences or events may be required.
Physical Requirements: Typical office and computer-based activities, including prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
Work Model: For applicants in or around London, a requirement to go into our offices 2-3 days per week may exist. For others located in different areas of the UK, this position will be remote.
