Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for a pharmacy technician to join the Logistics team at the Royal Derby Hospital.
Your role will be to support the Chief Pharmacy Technicians in the day-to-day management of the pharmacy distribution and procurement services provided from the Pharmacy Stores department at the Royal Derby Hospital.
Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs) due to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC by May 2025 are eligible to apply for this post.
Main duties of the job
1. To lead the annual ward stock list review process liaising with Divisional pharmacists and Ward/Theatre Managers as required, including being responsible for the collection, reporting and analysis of additional stock requests.
2. To lead and support the management, development and delivery of the distribution and procurement related education and training of pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians and support staff.
3. To support the chief technicians to maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures to improve service and reduce risk.
4. To assist the chief technicians with the recruitment, return to work, annual leave allocation and appraisal of delegated staff.

Person Specification
Education, Training and Qualifications CPD Requirements
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
* Training qualification e.g. City and Guilds Stage 1 Teaching certificate or equivalent.
Experience and Knowledge
* Current knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice. Working knowledge of NHS Trust and departmental section procedures and priorities.
* Detailed pharmacy technical knowledge including Law & Ethics pharmacy practice. Substantial Pharmacy experience.
* Experience of training staff. Computer literate with detailed functional knowledge of word, excel and pharmacy computer systems.
* Knowledge of unlicensed medicines in England. Knowledge and understanding of NVQ Pharmacy Services standards.
* Awareness of opportunities for extended roles for pharmacy technicians and support staff.
* Coaching/mentoring.
Skills and Ability
* Able to clearly and concisely communicate verbally and electronically with the pharmacy team. Able to produce accurate written work to a high standard.
* Able to work under pressure, organise own work and meet deadlines. Able to demonstrate that they can work on their own initiative but know limitations of own authority and knowledge.
* Able to identify and solve problems. Good attention to detail.
* Can plan, organise and deliver training sessions one to one and small or large groups. Able to plan and prioritise tasks in accordance with departmental and individual needs.
