We are excited to offer this psychological therapist role following a successful bid to provide the Essex Maternal Mental Health Service ( MMHS) which aims to integrate maternity, (reproductive health) and psychological therapy for women experiencing mental health difficulties arising from, or directly related to, the maternity experience. This new service is intended to provide targeted care and support to those women and families who needs are not currently being met in other services, including those who have experienced trauma and loss in the perinatal period and who are not eligible for specialist perinatal mental health services.
This service will provide psychology support for families accessing the 5 maternity units across Essex. You will be nominally based at Pride House inBasildon. Hybrid working of both face to face and online working is encouraged as well as home visiting when indicated.
We are looking for Psychological therapist (Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/CBT Therapist/Psychotherapist) to provide psychological assessment and intervention to womenwho experience moderate to severe mental health difficulties following birth trauma, perinatal loss (including early miscarriage, recurrent miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death).
You will work collaborativelywith the multi-disciplinary team of specialist maternal mental health midwives to provide a specialist, trauma-informed psychological service.
This is a great opportunity to develop a service from its start. We are looking to recruit an experienced psychological therapist who has experience of working with people with trauma and/or loss to join our supportive and passionate team.
The post holder will be supported to train in and gain highly specialist psychological treatment skills, specifically Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT). Sound knowledge of its application is essential and the post holder will receive further relevant training (e.g. EMDR training).
There will be regular clinical supervision from the Clinical Lead/Principal Practitioner Psychologist.

The MMHS will form part of the broader community perinatal mental health service offer as well as siting within the EPUT Psychological Service Directorate. You will be part of a larger team of psychologists and psychological therapists specialising in perinatal mental health and you will receive support from the Clinical Lead. We are able to offer high quality supervision in a range of models and to support access to training and continuing professional development for the successful candidate. EPUT provides solid career development and invests in staff development and wellbeing. As a trust we have close links to the University of Essex and University of Hertfordshire Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Programme offering opportunities for trainee placements in the service and curriculum teaching.
Experience of working with trauma and loss is essential for this role.
