This is an excellent opportunity for a midwife with a deep understanding of the emotional and physical aspects of bereavement care, committed to delivering high-quality care for families who experience the loss of a baby at any stage of pregnancy or soon after birth.
Main duties of the job
In this role the post holder will:
1. Assist in the day to day running of the maternity/gynaecology department bereavement services.
2. Deliver high quality, evidence-based and family centred bereavement care.
3. Work effectively as part of the immediate team and wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
4. Have clear and effective communication skills.
5. Act as a professional role model.

Job responsibilities
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Delivering a high standard of evidence-based care to patients.
2. Assist the midwifery/nursing team in providing an identifiable, accessible, confidential and professional bereavement service to support women with sensitive queries/concerns, providing information and advice.
3. Act as a coordinating contact point enabling women to easily access bereavement follow on care and support.
4. Actively engage with women to support them through their difficult experiences.
5. Meet with bereaved relatives/carers and, in a sensitive manner, give advice and support as required.
6. Advise relatives of help available to them, from, for instance, SANDS, counselling services etc.
7. Ensure correct completion of paperwork by staff incorporated within the bereavement pathway.
8. Provide support and debriefing to staff and women who are affected by bereavement.
9. Involve and support patients, relatives, carers and friends in the care process.
10. Promote well-being and involve patients and relatives in health education.
11. In conjunction with the matron and the senior midwifery bereavement specialist within the care group, maintain clinical policies and protocols relevant to the area, ensuring that practice is evidence based.
12. Freedom to act on a daily basis as this role is managed rather than supervised.
13. Undertake other similar duties as part of this post in order to provide a quality service, consistent with the level of responsibilities outlined above.
14. Ensure good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times.
15. Adhere to NMC Code of Professional conduct at all times.
16. Ensure clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times.
17. Ensure contemporaneous record keeping at all times.
18. Seek advice from more senior/experienced members of staff where appropriate.
19. Work in accordance with the Trust Policies and Procedures.

Person Specification
* Registered midwife with active NMC registration
Essential and desirable
* Experience of dealing with bereavement/social support
* Ability to communicate and negotiate in difficult situations.
* Ability to adapt to meet changing needs and to work under pressure. Motivated. Able to act as the clients advocate.
* Interest to develop knowledge of the clinical specialty and own practice
* Able to manage patients emotional needs and demonstrate empathy and caring
* Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members
* Proven record in teaching/mentoring/supervising others
