Description CMDP, a Joint Venture between Costain and MWHT, have been selected by Southern Water to deliver essential infrastructure solutions for its next AMP8 investment programme. The award is for an initial seven-year term worth at least £500m to Costain, with an option to extend by up to five years. CMDP has successfully secured a place on two Lots of the new Strategic Delivery Partner framework, and the joint venture continues the long-standing relationship between us, MWH Treatment and Southern Water. The framework will deliver upgrades to water and wastewater assets, including treatment sites, pumping stations and reservoirs, during Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) and beyond. Southern Water expects that its AMP8 programme, which runs from 2025 to 2030, will be the largest it has ever undertaken. The Engineering Manager role reports to and works alongside the Head of Engineering and will be a key member of the CMDP Design Leadership Team accountable for the delivery of engineering solutions across the AMP8 water and wastewater programme of work from initial definition of need through optioneering, solution development, detail design and construction support. This key role will be based at CMDP’s core Falmer (Brighton) design office and will involve home working and supporting both remote and office based MWHT and Costain design teams in Manchester. The key accountabilities of the role will be to lead timely design production and provide strong resource management at Framework level. LI-JA1 Responsibilities Drive technical delivery within the CMDP design team Play an active role within the Design Leadership Team Manage technical output and drive innovation to meet capital efficiency targets and sustainable solutions to meet our carbon targets Help define the overall design and production strategy and ensure it delivers on CMDP’s expectations Design production and reporting of progress at Framework level Resource Management, recruitment and on-boarding of design staff Design team competency assurance and coordination of training needs Manage and develop supply chain Contribute to the quality of project delivery and customer service Share best practice, knowledge, and efficiency improvements Development and continual improvement of AMP7 design procedures and ownership of the Design Management Audit process Grow design capability across the CMDP region Qualifications Essential Significant project engineering management experience in a multi-discipline engineering design contracting/consultancy environment Significant experience in the Water/Wastewater Sector Able to demonstrate cross discipline engineering understanding and interactions for engineering, procurement and project management Thorough knowledge of the major project delivery process from work winning to project handover Strong process safety, quality and environmental leadership focus Strong knowledge and understanding of Project Controls, including Schedule, Cost, Risk and Change Management Collaborative, innovative and agile Experienced customer facing capability with an ability to develop and influence relationships Ability to communicate, present and influence clients and internal stakeholders at all levels of the business from engineering to executive level Degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering related subject Desirable Knowledge and understanding of UK technical and regulatory standards and best practice Strong engineering and business system/software skills Able to travel to visit costain/client offices, project sites and suppliers Proven ability in line management, mentoring and team development Chartered Engineer Association for Project Management qualification
