Our client, a leading organisation in the global insurance space, has an exciting opportunity to join their team on a permanent basis. You will work closely with fellow engineers in the UK and overseas. As a Web App Support Engineer, you will be responsible for the global administration and support of distributed computing systems, including Cloud and on-premises environments. You will collaborate with global teams to support Web Hosting infrastructures (both physical and virtual).
Role responsibilities:
* Ensure the global stability, integrity, and efficient operation of systems and infrastructure supporting core organizational functions. Monitor systems and ensure availability according to published SLAs.
* Demonstrate solid technical skills and interpersonal competencies in your role.
* Provide global technical leadership and support for planning, coordination, scripting, and implementation of releases, upgrades, or changes to the distributed computing environment. Manage small to medium-scale projects of various complexities.
* Participate in an after-hours, on-call rotation to handle incidents and troubleshoot Web Hosting infrastructure issues.
* Support a potential sliding shift schedule to ensure 24/7 global coverage.
Skills required:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
* Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud and related technologies.
* Experience with F5 LTM or Avi load balancers.
* Knowledge of Siteminder and security products is helpful.
* Familiarity with Linux and Apache.
* Experience with ServiceNow ITIL processes.
* Support and installation of Microsoft IIS Webservers.
* Support and installation of WebSphere Application Server.
* Troubleshooting Web Environments using tools like Fiddler, Wireshark, Dynatrace, etc.
* Managing IaaS and PaaS in Microsoft Azure.
* Solid understanding of load balancers such as Avi, F5 LTM, Netscaler, and load balancing concepts.
* Experience with PowerShell and/or Python.
* In-depth knowledge of server hardware, OS, and related tools.
* Strong diagnostic and research skills.
* Ability to escalate issues appropriately to meet SLA requirements.
* Basic knowledge of networking components like TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS.
* Ability to assess risks and take actions during system outages.
* Ability to explain technical solutions to management.
