East Sussex Healthcare Trust is offering the opportunity to join our midwifery team. We are looking for a midwife to join our Community team in Hastings, providing care to pregnant/postnatal people in the local area.
The successful candidate will ideally have had recent community experience and at least 1 year midwifery experience. They will work within the core community team based in Hastings as part of the Maple specialist diabetic team. You will also support other teams including the Bexhill team and the caseloading teams Ivy and Lighthouse with visits and covering clinics.
We offer an excellent induction programme for all and full preceptorship programme for newly qualified midwives. This will include the knowledge and skills required to care for diabetic service users.
There is an on call provision so flexibility is essential and being able to drive between visits and clinic is essential.
Hastings is on the South East Coast of England with its beautiful seaside towns and villages including Rye and Battle, a stones through away from the beautiful countryside of the South Downs and a short train ride to the lively Brighton. A perfect place to work!
Working alongside the other midwives and maternity support workers in the Maple team you will provide care to those who were previously gestational diabetic, type 1 and type 2 diabetics and those diagnosed with gestational diabetes in their current pregnancy.
Having your own caseload means you will provide continuity within the antenatal and postnatal periods. Being part of the Maple team includes supporting the multidisciplinary team at the weekly joint Obstetric and diabetic clinic at the Conquest and occasionally at the EDGH.
You will action required referrals and the diabetic pathway of care. The Maple team is based with the core community team out of a local family hub, which means you will work closely with the core team supporting each other as required.
As a community team we provide on calls to cover homebirths throughout East Sussex, births at the standalone midwifery unit in Eastbourne and if required escalation at our consultant led unit in Hastings.
We are a tight knit team working closely together to provide women/pregnant people and their families with high quality, evidence based midwifery care. You will need to be a highly motivated team player committed to improving and developing the service.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work confidently and autonomously within the team is essential, you will gain experience in all aspects of midwifery care.
