This role offers the chance to step into a key position in the Commercial Team, providing high-level advice and oversight on Intellectual Property (IP) matters. With a hybrid working model and flexible office locations, it’s perfect for someone looking for both responsibility and balance. The role spans a wide range of IP legal work, including advising on complex commercial agreements, managing trademark portfolios and delivering strategic IP solutions. You will be working closely with senior stakeholders, making this a great opportunity for an experienced lawyer looking for a stimulating and impactful role.
Key Responsibilities
* Clearance of proposed trade marks (conducting own ident checks, reviewing and analysing external reports and reporting to stakeholders) – advising to inherent registrability of proposition names and commercial appropriateness of protecting trade marks, considering and recommending filing strategies, preparing specifications and overseeing external counsel in the filing of trade mark application, processing through to registration
* Areas: trade mark opposition, trade mark infringement, other soft IP infringement, company names tribunal, domain name disputes
* Deal with cease-and-desist matters internally (using pre drafted precedents)
* Managing external counsel cease and desist activity
* Supervision/support to commercial lawyer on all licensing matters
* Support brand oversight teams on selecting appropriate quality controls in proposed relationships
* Review and amend existing processes and precedents as required
* Conduct annual brand audit to check ownership of material IP
* Provide support on development of internal process for other business functions where IP has an impact risk control sign off
Essential Requirements
* Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent) with at least 8 years' Post-Qualified Experience (PQE) in Intellectual Property law
* Adaptable and willing to work outside of comfort area and direct areas of expertise
* Strong and confident communicator and able to communicate with people of all seniority levels
* Able to communicate complex IP issues to clients who have little to no IP knowledge or have little time
* Strong presentation skills
* Highly organised
