Job overview
The Band 7 Family Liaison Nurse will be offered at 37.5 hours for a 2-year fixed term. For this role we are open to discussing hybrid working requests this includes flexible hours and an element of working from home. The working days will be 5 days at 7.5 hours with a breakdown of:
TWO days (Monday and Tuesday)- Giving family liaison support to children, families and staff who are in-patients in our PICU and Acute Wards.
THREE days (Wednesday-Friday)- Facilitating the PICU project, in partnership with Cosmic’s Service Delivery Team, to assess post PICU discharge psychometrics and ensure families are signposted to the correct services.
Critical success factors of this role will be monitored by Cosmic through clear KPIs and objectives, which will include metrics derived from the quality and impact of family liaison support provided to children, families, and staff. These metrics will evaluate the effectiveness of psychometric assessments, the timeliness and accuracy of signposting, and overall family satisfaction with the support received. If the outcomes of the role are considered successful at the end of the two-year term, Cosmic will review the viability of securing future funding to continue the position.
Main duties of the job
* To have overarching responsibility to assess and implement the psychosocial needs of families from admission, during their stay in hospital and through to discharge
* To provide effective nursing leadership, expertise, advice and psychosocial support to families to ensure the provision of high quality care to children and families within Children’s Services
* To facilitate referral to appropriate support services within the whole psychosocial team
* To act as a designated support resource to children and families and other professionals caring for them
* To provide family bereavement support and follow up care
* CONI Coordinator for St Mary’s Hospital in conjunction with the Lullaby Trust
* To facilitate the development of all staff within Children’s Services in the support of families in both intensive care and the ward areas
* To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient and family centred care through research and evidence based practice
* To work in close co-operation with and communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and outside agencies
* To contribute to long term patient management and discharge planning working closely with the paediatric complex discharge coordinator
* Benchmark services with national family liaison services
* Being a key contact to undertake referrals into the Long Term Ventilation team

Person specification
* Registered Nurse/RN Child/RSCN
* MSc/MRes/MA or working towards this qualification
* Management certificate or equivalent experience.
* MSc/MRes/MA or working towards this qualification
Experience & Knowledge
* Minimum of 2 years at Senior Charge Nurse/Sister Band 7 level within specialty
* Understanding Child Safeguarding procedures
* Awareness of Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity
