Location: Based in and around Aviemore, Scotland.
Salary: £37,500-£45,000 per annum, DOE
Contract: Full-time, permanent

The Role
A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Full Time Senior Hydrologist / Environmental Consultant to join an Environmental and Civil Engineering consultancy based in Edinburgh, Scotland, with the role based around the Speyside - Aviemore area! As a result of our sustained growth we are seeking to open a new Office in the region to service our expanding order book of projects based in the Highlands.
You will join as a Senior Hydrologist / Environmental Consultant and will be allocated a suitable mentor / line manager to oversee your training and development.
The majority of your role will be desk based, however site work will form a part of your role and development. This will involve being away from home for short periods of time (e.g. days / the very occasional week), therefore the chosen candidate must have a full UK driving licence, be comfortable working away from home within the UK and comfortable driving different vehicles (i.e. small hire vans, company 4x4 etc.).
Key Responsibilities;
• Hydraulic flood modelling (1D/2D)
• Water quality/quantity monitoring
• Hydrological and hydrogeological modelling
• Various fieldwork and data collection
• Input to natural flood management and river restoration schemes
• Preparing GIS-based technical drawings
• Peat management and restoration plans
• Private water supply assessments
• Project management
Senior Hydrologist / Environmental Consultant – What we need from you
We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious individual who has particular experience in the hydrology / hydrogeology and the environmental consulting space where they will gain further valuable practical experience, both in terms of desk based technical / assessment work and site based activities.

The role would be very well suited for those who have 3-5 years of relevant experience in the areas of Hydrology, The Water Environment, Environmental Consulting, GIS, SuDS & Drainage Design and Flood Risk Assessment.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
• Experience in project management, including deadlines, budgets, resourcing, and client communication
• Based in or within commuting distance to the Speyside/Aviemore area
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
• Competence in preparing concise, professional reports
• Full UK driving licence
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
• Minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field
• Experience preparing EIA Hydrology, Hydrogeology, and Geology chapters for onshore renewable projects
• Practical experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Highly organised with excellent time management
• Passion for sustainability, renewable energy, and the transition to net-zero
• Practical experience with GIS/QGIS and / or AutoCAD software
Desirable:
• Experience with flood modelling software and hydrological modelling tools
• Expertise in SuDS and drainage strategy design
• Experience preparing costed fee proposals
• Familiarity with 4x4/off-road driving
• Background in outdoor courses or fieldwork
• Access to a personal vehicle
• Relevant Master’s degree
Route to Chartership
The management team are Chartered Members of their chosen professional accreditation bodies and will fully support and mentor the candidate in their chosen path towards Chartership. This includes paying the annual membership fees of the candidates chosen professional body.
The chosen candidate would be expected to complete a statutory 6-month probation period. Upon successful completion of this the employee would be enrolled onto the various employer schemes (healthcare, life assurance etc.)
