About the Role:We are looking for a Senior Materials Technician to establish, operate, and manage all aspects of construction materials testing, including concrete, earthworks, aggregates, and grout. This role involves working on-site at Sizewell C, as well as at our facilities in Avonmouth and other locations as needed for trials. Your expertise will be crucial in developing nuclear-qualified concrete mixes and managing UKAS-accredited laboratory facilities to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
* Establish and maintain safe methods of work for the materials team both on-site and in the laboratory.
* Plan and undertake inspections and testing in line with contract requirements, identifying and reporting areas of risk and opportunity.
* Maintain high standards of work and compliance with UKAS accreditation requirements.
* Develop concrete mix designs and facilitate material testing to meet client specifications.
* Produce compliance reports and manage the dispatch of samples to external test laboratories.
* Train and develop junior staff to ensure a succession plan is in place.
* Execute trials and ongoing quality testing requirements as per agreed specifications, scopes, or ITPs.
* Assist in managing the laboratorys equipment, consumables, and external testing/calibration aspects of the materials engineering budget.
Knowledge & Skills:
* Knowledge of ISO 17025 and UKAS accreditation.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to collect, manage, and present data clearly.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
* Well-organized with a quick learning ability.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Essential:
o Previous experience working within a UKAS accredited laboratory.
o Experience in auditing, training, and development of junior staff.
o Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
o Full UK driving licence.
* Desirable:
o SMSTS or SSSTS qualification.
o Membership in a relevant professional institute.
o Experience in reporting KPIs and preparing/reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
