About the Role: We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Support Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a Year 1 child with non-verbal autism. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the child’s well-being, development, and inclusion within the classroom environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide personal care support while maintaining the child’s dignity and comfort. Use non-verbal communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and visual schedules to promote engagement and understanding. Encourage independence, social interaction, and emotional regulation throughout the school day. Implement individualized learning strategies tailored to meet the child’s specific needs. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents to ensure a consistent and effective support plan is in place. What We’re Looking For: Experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a school or similar setting. Confidence and sensitivity when assisting with personal care tasks. Knowledge of non-verbal communication techniques such as PECS, Makaton, or other similar methods. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to learning support.
