The International Markets Centralized Investigations (IMCI) team seats within the Employee Workplace Relationships Services (EWRS) organization and is a newly formed function responsible for executing centralized investigations, case management, and intake for Global Operations and selected business lines employees in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and LATAM, with plans for future geographic expansion. We are looking for a Investigations Principal that is responsible for leading complex ER and HR workplace investigations. This role focuses on solving highly sensitive and ambiguous employee relations issues that have significant business, legal, and reputational implications, also across multiple countries. The Investigations Principal also serves as a final decision-maker for employee appeals and manages high-level escalations. This role is virtual by design and can be based in the United Kingdom (preferred) and in any of the following European Union countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Republic of Ireland, Spain. Key job responsibilities - Lead the design, planning, and execution of high profile and highly complex workplace investigations involving sensitive allegations such as harassment, discrimination, misconduct, or other violations. Apply deep expertise in employment law, investigative best practices, and corporate policies across different countries and legal jurisdictions. - Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, providing guidance on the appropriate approach, scope, and communication plan for investigations. Utilize strong business acumen and strategic judgment to navigate ambiguous situations and make difficult decisions. - Partner cross-functionally with HR, Legal, Compliance, and other stakeholders across countries to ensure investigations are conducted thoroughly, objectively, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. Manage sensitive information and communications with discretion. - Anticipate potential risks or unintended consequences of proposed actions, and proactively work to address them. Challenge assumptions and encourage leaders to consider multiple options when making difficult decisions. - Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders. Provide clear and compelling communication of complex issues, trade-offs, and recommended actions. - Mentor and coach other Employee Relations Investigators, providing guidance on complex case management, critical thinking, stakeholder management, and professional development. Participate in performance assessments and promotion decisions for the ER Investigator team. - Hear and make final determinations on employee appeals of investigation findings or disciplinary actions, ensuring a fair and equitable process. - Manage high-level escalations of sensitive employee relations issues, providing guidance and making recommendations on appropriate courses of action. - Stay up-to-date on evolving employment laws, regulatory changes, and industry best practices across different countries. Leverage this knowledge to continuously improve Amazon's investigative capabilities. Basic Qualifications - Bachelor degree - 10 years combined human resources, labor relations, investigative, or legal experience, and demonstrated passion for employee relations, labor relations, investigations, or labor/employment law with an emphasis on labor and employee relations work - Experience leading sensitive, high-stakes investigations and navigating ambiguity - Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration skills - Ability to build trusted relationships and credibility with diverse stakeholders - Demonstrated success in developing and mentoring Employee Relations Investigators - Experience managing high-level escalations of complex employee relations issues Preferred Qualifications - Graduate or law degree, or equivalent - 10 years of relevant employee relations/workplace investigations experience in a multi-country context - Expertise in employment law, workplace investigations, and complex problem-solving across different jurisdictions - Experience leading sensitive, high-stakes investigations and navigating ambiguity in a multi-country environment - Experience hearing employee appeals in the UK - Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and sound judgment Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
