1067CW Fabrication Subject Matter Expert (SME) Hinkley Point C, Somerset Contract, long term £445 PAYE, £610 UMBRELLA Job Title: Fabrication Subject Matter Expert Job Description & Background: We are seeking an exceptional Fabrication Subject Matter Expert to join our team at Hinkley Point C, the UKs critical nuclear power station project. The role is crucial in providing high-level technical expertise across multiple critical fabrication disciplines, ensuring technical compliance and driving innovation in construction and equipment installation. Principal Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive subject matter expertise in welding, non-destructive testing, metallurgy, and mechanical component fabrication Ensure technical compliance of fabrication activities performed on or near HPC site Verify and review technical documentation, procedures, and method statements Drive technical innovation in the supply chain Develop surveillance strategies and guidelines for welding and associated activities Review and resolve Non-Conformance Reports, Requests for Information, and Field Change Requests Support Construction Technical Manager in workshops and steering committees Coordinate technical learning and experience sharing Coach and mentor team members Drive innovation with tangible benefits to the project Required Qualifications & Experience: Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Weld Engineering Significant experience in joining and testing carbon and stainless steel pressure equipment Extensive experience in highly regulated environments (nuclear, aerospace, petrochemical) Proven ability to interpret and apply welding codes and standards Comprehensive knowledge of British & European construction and design codes (RCC-M and/or ASME) Essential Skills & Attributes: Exceptional technical problem-solving capabilities Strong decision-making skills for resolving complex technical issues Excellent written and oral communication Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders Proficient in IT skills and common office software Commitment to nuclear safety culture Desirable Qualifications: Professional Welding Engineering qualification Chartered engineer status Experience working with complex materials like duplex and super duplex steels Knowledge of nuclear power plant safety functional requirements French language skills Experience liaising with external regulators Technical Competencies: Expert knowledge in: Welding techniques Non-Destructive Testing Metallurgy Heat treatment Mechanical component assembly Stainless steel surface integrity Pressure testing Mechanical code compliance (RCC-M) Personal Competencies: RESPECT: Inclusive communication and motivation INTEGRITY: Calm and determined approach under pressure INNOVATION: Proactive stakeholder engagement COLLABORATION: Knowledge sharing and teamwork EXCELLENCE: Goal-setting and continuous improvement Location & Details: Primarily site-based at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station Some travel to Bristol and potential international travel Permanent, full-time position Competitive salary with comprehensive benefits package Opportunity to work in a cutting-edge nuclear infrastructure project This role offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a landmark nuclear energy project, working at the forefront of technical innovation and safety.
