GE Caledonian at Prestwick is a world class aero engine overhaul repair facility, specialising in the refurbishment of advanced technology engines for some of the worlds largest Airlines.

In order to maintain the high standards demanded by our customers, it is essential to train people for the engineering positions of the future. GE Caledonian, in partnership with Ayrshire College, deliver a Modern Apprenticeship programme designed to meet current industry standards. You will be working on the most modern aircraft jet engines and accessories, and will be provided with training commensurate with our position as world leaders in our industry. In addition to this you are expected to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award scheme and actively participate in our volunteering initiatives.
To be considered for an Engineering Apprenticeship, students must have gained or be working towards:
* SVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations,
* Foundation Apprenticeship.
The Modern Engineering Apprentice programme will consist of three years on the job training at our Prestwick site in conjunction with academic studies delivered by Ayrshire College.
During this time you will be expected to achieve a minimum of SVQ Level 3, and an HNC in Engineering as well as developing core skills.

Role description
The Modern Apprentice will function under the overall guidance of the Apprentice Coordinator but also on a day-to-day basis be managed by the Team Leader / Supervisor in charge of the department where the Apprentices’ current training is taking place. For the duration of the Apprenticeship at GE Caledonian, you will gain practical experience and develop theoretical knowledge whilst obtaining formal qualifications, which are recognised and fully transferrable within the Aerospace industry.
You will perform multiple aspects of maintenance and repair to the highest quality. Excellent communication skills are required, along with the ability to accurately follow work process instructions. You will have a keen sense of achievement and take pride in the work you undertake and produce. The ability to work efficiently within a team is essential.
You will:
* Adhere to GE health & safety policy and safe working practices.
* Be highly self-motivated, able to work in a small team and independently.
* Have good problem-solving abilities, able to think on your feet.
* Have basic PC knowledge of networking and communication.
* Be working to targets and deadlines.
* Be undertaking your qualification on jet engines.
* Be working with your team in the development and implementation of continuous improvement projects.
Qualifications/Requirements:
* Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) at SCQF Level 5 Completed by July 2025
* OR
Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering Completed by July 2025.
* Team player, cooperative, interested in further personal and career development
* Confident personality
* High degree of flexibility, highly motivated with the ability to work under pressure
GE partner with Ayrshire College for training delivery, therefore we would recommend living in an area commutable to the college.
