We have an exciting opportunity to join the Data Platform Team, as a Data Modeller. You will oversee the entire data modelling process, including designing, implementing and maintaining the data models. You will understand data needs and translating it into an efficient and scalable data model, that will support the data platform.
About the role
As a Data Modeller, you will work in the Data Team and report to the Data Architect. The Data team provides the Data Management and Governance for all data held on the platform. The Data Modeller role involves includes Data Modelling, Data Analysis, Scoping, Metadata Management, Reference Data Management, Data Quality Management and Data Mapping Governance. Data Management is a broad discipline, so we are looking for candidates from several backgrounds including Data Modelling, Data Analysis, Data Stewardship or Data Governance.
* Combine both Data Modelling and data analysis skills to capture data-centric requirements and data definitions, working with technical solution & project delivery teams.
* Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for both relational and non-relational databases.
* Create and maintain documentation of the Data Models including the ER diagram, data dictionaries and metadata definitions.
* Work with Data Engineers to translate data models into physical implementations on the data platform.
* Profile large and complex data sets using SQL or other analytical tools to ensure that the data models aligns with our requirements.
* Work with the Data Architect to ensure that the data models incorporate all the data concepts.
* Contribute to data management forums to help establish and improve data standards and efficient ways of working.
* Optimize data models and queries for improved performance and efficiency, ensuring faster and more reliable data processing.
* Enforce industry data management best practices, standards and processes. Stay informed on latest trends in data modelling, management, and analytics to implement modern, effective approaches.
What you'll need to have
These are the essential skills or experience needed to succeed in this role.
* Understanding of data modelling concepts, including entity-relationship diagrams, normalisation, and dimensional modelling (e.g., star and snowflake schemas).
* Familiarity with data modelling tools (e.g., draw.io, lucid chart, ER/Studio, or Erwin).
* Conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling, data lineage/data flow mapping and data quality.
* Must be knowledgeable in SQL, essential for querying databases and managing large datasets.
* Proficiency in Databricks and Azure Synapse.
* Expertise in developing and managing ETL processes for efficient data integration.
* Ability to design and optimize data models that support business intelligence and analytics needs.
* Data protection, security, and governance awareness.
* Desirable to have Retail, Pharmacy, Supply Chain and Product data domain experience.

These are desirable skills or experience and are not essential, so we would welcome applications from candidates that don't match this additional criteria.
* Any previous experience in data analysis, database management, or data modelling will be an asset.
* Knowledge of Data Bricks will be an advantage.
* Being comfortable with at least one programming language like Python.
* Knowledge of Agile processes such as Scrum.
