Pay Range: $15.81 - $18.00/hour
About this opportunity:
Under the direction of the Store Manager, the Truck Driver drives Salvation Army trucks along scheduled routes to pick-up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers; operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations; lifts, carries, loads and unloads various donations to include: furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.; ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times; and assists in performing other duties in the thrift store and warehouse which may include receiving donations, sorting donations, pricing donations, and moving donated items to the sales floor.
Key responsibilities:
1. Confers regularly with the Store Manager to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of donations in accordance with the established policy.
2. Reviews scheduled pick-ups to ensure they are scheduled for the correct day of the week and geographical location.
3. Organizes scheduled pick-ups by most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption.
4. Lifts and stacks donations in The Salvation Army truck.
5. Loads and unloads donations at Thrift Store dock.
6. Picks up and delivers items such as food and Angel Tree gifts as directed by the Corps Officer.
7. Drives to the dump and metal recycling center to dispose of non-useable donations.
8. Drives carefully and observes/complies with all traffic signs and road/weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.
9. Arrives at destination according to schedule or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.
What we are looking for in you:
1. High School Diploma or G.E.D., preferred but not required;
2. One year experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van,
3. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid State Driver's License.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (over 50lbs.) materials, supplies and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
Work is performed in a stock room, warehouse or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in weather. There are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors and the like.
