Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 3 healthcare assistant to work within the inpatient unit at St Benedicts Hospice. Your key responsibilities will be to assist the registered practitioner in providing high quality compassionate care and assistance to patients / relatives and their carers appropriate to their needs. Responsible for carrying out tasks as delegated by the registered practitioner who has overall accountability for delegating care, to comply with the Trusts vision, values and behavioural compact, to assist the qualified staff to provide high quality care and assistance to all patients, relatives and significant others during their admission to the hospice.
Please note the Trust are not able to offer Skilled Worker Sponsorship for this role as it does not meet the UKVI threshold requirements. Applicants are requested to consider this when making their application.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team at St Benedicts Hospice to work over a 24-hour period, 7 days a week. The successful candidate should possess the care certificate and have level 2/3 health/health and social care NVQ or be committed to completing Care Certificate qualification on commencement to post. A Minimum of 3 months experience of working in a hospital / care setting as a paid carer is required when applying for the post.
There will be an expectation to have the ability to prioritise tasks, ability to communicate health related information in an understandable way to patients and colleagues, adapting communication style to meet the needs of the recipient, ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing, basic skills of empathy and reassurance, basic keyboard skills, ability to use basic email system and document clearly, using plain English, basic understanding of health and safety requirements in a patient environment, general understanding of confidentiality requirements in a health care setting, willing to undertake further training related to role, willing to complete Competency Based Assessments and a Portfolio of evidence, in order to achieve the Care Certificate.
The role requires you to have the ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
