Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary primary healthcare team delivering primary healthcare nursing including elements of occupational health within the Group Practice and will be a focal point for Primary Health Care nursing issues within the area of practice. The Group Practice is formed of three sites and there is an expectation the Band 6 nurse will be required to work across all sites.
The post holder will be able to work unsupervised and provide nursing care to the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) population at risk, holding an individual case load, and through consultation identify, assess and diagnose patients with complex health needs, minor injuries, minor illnesses and specific diseases within their level of competence.
Job responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
* Providing safe, evidence-based, cost-effective and individualised patient care.
* Undertaking technical nursing treatments and procedures for patients with complex/specialist healthcare needs (e.g. wound care, sutures removal, Electrocardiograms (ECGs), Cytology, Audiometry, Ear Care).
* Providing assistance to the Senior Medical Officer performing minor surgery.
* Having direct responsibility for patient caseload, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care, which reflects the assessment undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made.
* Providing specialist advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following assessment, diagnosis and through treatment.

There will be no reimbursement for any travel expenses for the interview.

This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Band 6 Practice Nurse in the Medical Centre RAF Odiham, Hook, Hants, RG29 1QT. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 11 months after that date OR will end on 28th November 2025. You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Must hold in-date Basic Life Support (BLS), Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
* A minimum of three additional post-registration Primary Healthcare Nursing related qualifications specific but not limited to: Clinical Supervision, management of Long-Term Conditions, Asthma, Diabetes, Travel health, Chronic Health Disease (CHD), Family Planning/cervical cytology, Smoking Cessation.
Experience
* Experienced and competent in Physical Assessment and History taking, Minor Injury / Illness ability to triage and treat, Immunisation, Venepuncture, Audiology, Family Planning, Travel Medicine, Wound Care, Electro-Cardiogram and Cervical Cytology.
* The experience and ability to work autonomously.
* Effective organisational and delegation skills.
Registrations and memberships
* Must be a Registered Nurse, with live registration on Part 1 of the UK NMC Register and hold a valid and in date Personal Identification Number (PIN) with no restriction of practice.
Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 a year (Per annum - pro rata for part time).
