The Role
Tom Cox Gallery is looking for a dynamic and experienced Gallery Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a solid background in gallery management, strong organisational skills, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset. A passion for contemporary art and a keen interest in the evolving art market will be highly valued in this role.
The position requires a commitment of two to three days per week from Thursday to Sunday, with additional hours for special events.
About Tom Cox Gallery
Founded in 2021 by British artist Tom Cox, our gallery has quickly become a destination for contemporary art in South London. We’re dedicated to showcasing the outstanding talent of local, national, and international artists through a vibrant programme of exhibitions and events throughout the year.
On weekdays, our space serves as the Director’s art studio, and from Wednesday to Sunday, it transforms into a public gallery space, inviting the community to explore cutting-edge contemporary art.
Key Responsibilities
* Welcome visitors and potential buyers with exceptional customer service and tailored art consultations.
* Use your in-depth knowledge of our artists and exhibitions to actively promote and sell artworks in line with sales goals.
* Manage and expand our CRM system, sales records, and mailing list with precision.
* Physically hang exhibitions within the gallery space.
* Coordinate with artists to ensure contracts are signed, artworks arrive on schedule, and they stay updated on sales.
* Support the development of our events programme to engage and inspire our audience.
* Collaborate with the Director and external consultants to create, upload, and schedule content for our social channels in line with exhibitions and events.
* Represent the gallery at art-related events, building connections within the art community and promoting our artists and initiatives.
Gallery and Studio Administration
* Regularly update our website via Squarespace, including managing artwork listings, event details, and stock levels.
* Oversee the logistics of artwork deliveries, coordinating with artists, couriers, and customers.
* Catalogue new artworks with photography and post-production editing, using tools like Photoshop or Affinity.
* Assist with studio tasks such as stretching and priming canvases, painting frames, and framing limited-edition prints.
* Oversee the cleaners / window cleaners and ensure waste and general cleaning is managed on a day-to-day basis.
* Manage the gallery email account, ensuring emails are responded to promptly and with the highest level of customer service.
Requirements
* Minimum 2 years of experience in gallery management or a similar role within the art industry.
* Proficient in Excel and image editing software (e.g., Photoshop or Affinity).
* Flexibility to work evenings for gallery events as required.
* Familiarity with commercial gallery operations.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, consultants, and customers.
* Proven ability to drive and close high-value sales, with a strong track record in handling significant transactions effectively and professionally.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills, with a knack for juggling multiple priorities.
* Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
* High attention to detail and an interest in the art market.
Renumeration
£14 per hour base, plus performance-based sales commission.
