Job Type: Full time Job Location: Thurrock School Setting: Alternative Provision / PRU Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent REF: SENDIRECT/191653 Rate: £56,081-£61,780 per annum Hours: 8:30–15:30 Start Date: April 2025 We are seeking an Assistant Head SENCO to join a specialist Alternative Provision / PRU in Thurrock. This full-time, temporary-to-permanent role provides an exciting opportunity to lead on SEND provision, ensuring that students receive the support they need to thrive in an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. As an Assistant Head SENCO, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing SEND strategies, working closely with staff, students, and external professionals to create tailored interventions. You will also support staff training and development, helping to embed inclusive teaching practices across the school. This role is ideal for an experienced SENCO or aspiring leader with a strong passion for SEND and inclusion. While prior experience is desirable, it is not essential, as training and development opportunities will be provided. Key Responsibilities: Lead on SEND provision across the school, ensuring effective identification, support, and intervention for students with additional needs. Develop and implement strategic SEND policies in line with national frameworks and school objectives. Work closely with staff, students, and external professionals to create and deliver effective support plans. Monitor and assess student progress, ensuring interventions are tailored and impactful. Provide training and guidance to teaching and support staff on SEND best practices. Liaise with parents, carers, and outside agencies to coordinate multi-agency support. Ensure that safeguarding policies and procedures are rigorously followed to protect student welfare. Qualifications and Experience: National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it. Experience working in an Alternative Provision, PRU, or SEND setting is desirable but not essential. Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, EHCPs, and best practice interventions. Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills. A commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
