In combination with your academic studies, you will carry out field work, including environmental and geotechnical land condition assessments and prepare technical reports. We are looking for our Geo-Environmental / Geotechnical (Degree) Apprentices to be a fundamental part of the future growth of our business. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff within dedicated geological, environmental management and land assessment teams. What you’ll do at work Our apprenticeships are designed to give you an insight into a wide variety of areas of work and the chance to explore where your skills and interests lie. Through a combination of on-the-job learning and practical skills development, you’ll work on real projects from day one that offer scale and variety, collaborating with others and creating meaningful impact on the world around us. At the end of the apprenticeship you will also work towards membership with a professional body (e.g. Geological Society or equivalent). Approximately 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying. College or training organisation KEELE UNIVERSITY, KEELE Your training course Geoscientist (degree) (level 6) Equal to degree Your training plan At the end of this Apprenticeship you will have completed and achieved a Degree Apprenticeship in Geosciences which includes a BSc (Hons) Geoscience Degree awarded by Keele University. The Geoscientist Degree Apprenticeship will include relevant field trips to support your learning. Teaching will take place remotely and on campus at Keele University, Keele, Newcastle, Staffordshire ST5 5BG. As well as formal lectures and remote accessed directed study, the apprenticeship allows you to learn whilst you work on projects with RSK, and an “apprenticeship standard” outlines the core skills, knowledge and behaviours you will develop and be assessed in, alongside core duties. You will be studying the Geoscientist (degree apprenticeship) Level 6 (ST1356 v1.1 Apprenticeship Standard). Requirements Essential qualifications GCSE Maths and English ‘Level 2 ’ or higher or L2 Apprenticeship Award in a relevant subject (including L2 Certificated Passes in Maths & English) and A-Levels ‘BBB’ in appropriate subjects or BTEC ‘DDM’ or L3/4 Apprenticeship Award in a relevant subject or International Baccalaureate ‘29’ or Where applicants can demonstrate substantial and relevant experience, formal qualifications may be waived eg. work experience or other education schemes. This may be evidenced by portfolio of work, as deemed equivalent by Keele University to permit entry to their degree. Skills Communication and IT skills, team working, creativity and enthusiasm to learn new things are essential requirements to succeed in a consultancy environment, but thorough training is provided to enhance your overall capabilities during your apprenticeship. Other requirements The role will involve a mix of office and site based tasks. It is worth noting that this can include working on open greenfield / construction sites / operational buildings for extended periods of time, involving some travel around the UK, for which it is essential that you have a valid UK driving license. This mode of working provides for an invaluable varied experience of great benefit towards successfully completing your degree apprenticeship.
