This is a substantive full-time (10PA) post, working exclusively within the Gloucestershire Hospitals Trust. This post will be a cross-county appointment with activities on both sites.
We are looking for an experienced Gynaecological Oncologist to join our expanding team, who will provide high-quality specialist oncological care for our patients.
Main duties and Purpose
1. Subspecialty accredited Gynaecological Oncologist with a special interest in vulval disease and vulval cancer, and be competent in the use of sentinel node localisation and excision for the treatment of vulval cancer.
2. The provision of high-quality specialist Gynaecological oncology services in all clinical settings including theatres, outpatient clinics, colposcopy, ward rounds, and on-call duties (1/12).
3. Support the clinical decision-making of junior medical and nursing staff, by way of appropriate teaching and supervision including medical students.
4. Ensure the delivery of a high-quality patient-centred clinical service.
5. Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in that same task.
6. Sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.
7. Work in accordance with our trust's procedures and operating policies.
8. Support the business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Women and Children Division, and our Trust.
Clinical Responsibilities
The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high-quality care to the patients presenting to the Department.
The provision of high-quality care in all clinical settings, including theatres, outpatient clinics, wards, and working well as part of a multidisciplinary team:
* Support the clinical decision-making of junior medical and nursing staff.
* Provide on-call support out of hours. Attend the Department out of hours as per agreed protocols.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCOG
* Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months)
* RCOG Subspecialty Accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent
* Qualification in healthcare management or leadership
* ATSM in vulval disease
* Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to specialty
Clinical Experience
* Clinical training and experience in Gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT.
* Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
* Demonstrate ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to lead emergency Gynaecology services in and out of hours.
* Experience in change management and innovation.
* Experience in robotic surgery.
* Experience in vulval disease, including multidisciplinary working.
Motivation and Attitude
* Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships.
* Enthusiasm for teaching and training of the multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to provide a role model and to inspire and develop junior medical and nursing staff.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of the directorate and to balance individual requirements against those of the directorate and the Trust as a whole.
* Evidence of self-motivation and ability to organise own CME and CPD needs.
* Ability to fulfil all the duties of the post, including on-call commitments for emergency Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology.
