Job overview
We are seeking a visionary and dedicated senior nurse with specialism in learning disability and autism to join our team as Head of Nursing Learning Disabilities and Autism. The candidate will be a Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse, Registered General Nurse or Registered Mental Health Nurse with proven learning disability experience. This will be a 6-month fixed term or secondment opportunity.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and passionate individual to lead and shape the future of nursing care for patients with a learning disability and/or autism and their families within the Local Care Organisation and more widely across Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will provide direct leadership to the community learning disability teams across Manchester within the Local Care Organisation work, leading on programmes of work strategically and operationally.
The post holder will work in collaboration with numerous colleagues across both health and social care ensuring that seamless pathways are in place to support efficient service delivery.

Main duties of the job
* Provide strategic leadership and direction for nursing services within this speciality within the Local Care Organisation and across Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust as a whole.
* Develop and implement innovative care models and practices to enhance the quality of life for individuals with a learning disability and/or autism.
* Oversee clinical governance within this area, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and excellence in nursing practice.
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver holistic and person-centred care across health and social care working with a variety of system partners.
* Engage with service users, families and carers to ensure their voices are heard and are at the heart of service development and delivery.
* Strong, visible and compassionate leader.

Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* Masters or higher degree or equivalent experience.
* RN Learning Disabilities (LD), RGN or RMN with significant experience in LDA.
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant and current clinical experience at a senior level within Learning Disability Services.
* Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of NHS policy and strategy with a proven ability to translate into local action.
* Current knowledge of relevant professional and policy initiatives.
* Experience of successfully managing an operational service including budget management/financial planning and strategic development.
* Understanding of integrated health and social care models.
* Experience of successfully managing and resolving complex complaints and incidents.
* Experience in developing and presenting business cases.
* Experience of setting workforce establishments, reviewing skill mix and introduction of new roles.
* Experience of working with/consultation with patient groups, other agencies and voluntary groups regarding service provision and development.
Skills & Abilities
* Innovative professional leader, able to inspire and motivate teams and individuals to enhance patient experience.
* Well organised, strategic thinker with evidence of strong leadership skills.
* Experience of participating in/leading nursing research.
